Our State Government has taken over the resonsibility of collecting garbage door to door. Except Thursday each day they collect the wet garbage We do not give our wet garbage as we put it in our compost pits. On Thursdays dry solid waste is collected. We have loads of it - plastic bags, broken bottles, plastic bottles - the works. I clicked this photo while the truck was passing by on the road. They play some boring songs announcing their arrival and that is the only thing I do not like about it We have to segregate the garbage and every one here does it What do you do with your garbage?

We can threw out all of our garbage at once. We do take out bottles and can and return them for the deposit that we pay on them.

Unfortunately in our State, there is no segregation of garbage. Buildings were asked at one time to segregate and hand over. But we saw just one truck coming and all the garbage was mixed in that so it made no sense to segregate at our end. Our garbage is not collected on Saturdays.

@allknowing Our state Govt should realize that. They are too busy with unimportant matters just now.

We have to separate wet garbage that goes in a special container. We also have to dispose separately of plastic, plastic bottles, tin cans, white glass, colored glass, batteries, paper. We have big containers at a walking distance of our home where to bring those things separately. The common house waste is collected by the garbage trucks every Monday and Friday, the "garden waste" on Tuesday.

We have a company that comes to the area and picks up the garbage. It is $4 a bag. Bags of recycling is $1.25 a bag. Needless to say I recycle as much as I can.

We have four different bins one for general rubbish which is rarely ever full, one for recycling of paper & plastics always full, one for garden waste although we compost most ourselves & a small food waste bin which is not very full as we tend to cook only what we need. Glass has to be taken to a central collecting point for recycling.

This is a lot of sorting out that you need to do. Separating that which can be recycled is a good idea.
