Pool Closed for the Season

If I had not mentioned it, we got the pool closed this past weekend. We have a 22 foot above ground pool, and last year our cover went kaput, so we had to buy a new one. All we could find was one that was 28 foot and at first I thought that would be too much extra. But it actually made the process much easier since we had a lot more to work with and maneuver. We got it clamped down and used the winch mechanism to tighten it all around the pool, and all is well. Took us considerably less time to close it than it has in the past, and with much less yelling between the wife and I.

Why do you need to close the pool? Did you extract all the water out?

@askme123 Winter is coming. But no, we did not have to remove all the water. We removed some, but most of it will stay in there. We just added extra chemicals.

Although, this weekend we are doing our first real camping trip and it is supposed to be in the 80s. Going to make it an even more enjoyable time methinks.

Much less yelling is the way to go lol. Does your pool allow you to actually swim or is it more for soaking/lounging?

I would say more soaking, lounging than actually swimming. But there is plenty of room to actually swim if one wanted to.

I used to help-close the pool and open it. I thought it was much easier to close than open and get the chemicals correct.

@porwest Do you have one of those crawling vacuums or do you clean with a long handled vacuum? For your pool.

I tend to agree a bit. Getting things just right at the start of the season can be challenging.

That's one big work done. That too much extra saved you from all the maneuvering and yelling . So, it was worth it.

Is there any cheap way to warm the water up during the winter ? maybe you will want to get into the pool and warm up. Like a warm bath in the cold weather.

@porwest Awww, that is just too cold, the water can freeze. I think a jacuzzi can be better in that case. But, it will require a lot of energy to warm it up.

@stringer321 We had a hot tub that was indoors when we lived in West Allis. We hardly ever used it. lol

Now, see, you’re smart. You close the pool when there’s next to no chance of using it again for the year. Our public pools and the waterparks close in the middle of August around here, missing out on a good 4-6 weeks of use.

Yeah, we like to get all we can out of it. I am not sure if I am smart or just good at putting things off as long as I can.

You mentioned in an earlier post that you wanted to get it closed up for the winter but never said you'd gotten it done.

Yeah, we finally did. Figured this weekend coming up we will be camping and weather is going to change after that. Might as well just git-r-done.

@porwest What do you mean "the weather is going to change after that"? Aren't you already getting below freezing temps at night like I am? It was 19F Wednesday and Thursday mornings this week. If you haven't gotten freezing temps yet, then you're paying Mother Nature off some how!

Living in Florida, the term “closing the pool” is not in our vocabulary. We swim all year round. Lol

Yes. It is. No more swimming until probably May or so of next year. And our marriage survived. That is always a plus.
