I'm not much of a gum purchaser these days, but like many a kid growing up I bought and chewed quite a lot of that bubbly sweet confection. Bazooka was a personal favorite with its pink color, square shape, and the little comic strip which accompanies them. I also liked juicy fruit, a brand that had such a tasty, unique flavor. What was your favorite brand of chewing gum? And while you're thinking about your answer here are a few fun facts about chewing gum... GUM: FUN FACTS -Did you ever wonder about why gum didn't break down and dissolve so you could swallow and digest it easily. The answer is it's due to the "gum base." Seems it's a trade secret, but it's usually made from synthetic resins along with flavorings and sweeteners. -Do you know how many years it takes to digest swallowed gum? Don't worry if I got you stumped, I'll let you know in my comments. Jellybeans are another confectionary that's popular especially around Easter. They come in so many varieties of colors today, including "vomit colored." Have you ever tried one of those? While you're deciding whether you would taste one, here is some entertaining jellybean information. JELLYBEAN FUN FACTS -Hmm, a vomit colored and flavored jellybean, really? I've never had one myself, but you might wonder why they created them in the first place. It was a laboratory accident. They were trying to come up with a "pizza flavored" jellybean and messed up the formula. Now I would have liked that flavor. They have since added other "gross named" jellybeans to their lineup which I will reveal in my comments. -What's your favorite-colored jellybean? I like the cherry flavored ones... Hope you enjoyed the junk food fun facts. Always good for a chuckle, Source: The Daily Mail & Wikipedia Photo- Reader's Digest

We weren't allowed chewing gum when I was a kid. Most who chew it can't seem to keep their mouths shut while they chew. I find that pretty off-putting. But I like jellybeans.

@dgobucks226 We had a doctor once who always gave the kids a jellybean after their visit. I did distract them from whatever had gone on before - being poked and prodded, etc.

Your right about gum chewing. Maybe they should have a gum etiquette class. A rumor circulated that it took 7 years to digest swallowed gum but actually gum travels through our system at the same speed as every other food. Although, probably best not to swallow it anyway. Another jellybean lover was an American President. Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan always kept a jar of jellybeans on-hand, both in the White House and on Air Force One.

@popciclecold Just like Baskins Robbins ice cream and their "31 flavors." It is the only ice cream chain in the world that has the unique “31 flavor” concept. It represents a different flavor for each day of the month.

I chew Dentyne Gum now. Jellybeans are my favorite candy. I like the spiced, cinnamon and licorice ones the best. I don't care for Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. I like the traditional flavors. Interesting post.

Seems like the gum we chewed the most was called Dubble Bubble. Later I always liked Dentyne and Juicy Fruit gum. Cherry jellybeans were a favorite.

@CarolDM Yes, Reagan was the perfect choice to clean up the mess made by his predecessor. Seems we are going through something very similar now. Hope another Reagan steps forward in 2024!

@dgobucks226 I was told the rumor about gum too and believed it at the time. Then I realized it was not true at all. Yes I remember President Reagan loved his jelly beans. He was such a great man.

Should the gum stay in our stomach, it would taker seven years before it can be digested. But the gum doesn't stay in our stomach.
