75% of the remaining Twitter employees quit yesterday

Good for them! Elon Musk sent out an email to Twitter employees on Wednesday morning stating that they had to commit to a "hardcore" workload with "high intensity". He said that only "exceptional performance will earn a passing grade". This is after he suddenly fired half of Twitter's staff the day after he took over, demanded that all employees return to in-person work, stopped offering free lunches/dinners to staff, started firing employees who publicly criticized him, and destroyed the blue check verification system. Sounds like a great place to work, right? Wouldn't everyone want to stay for the chance to work for the world's richest man? Apparently not. 75% of the remaining staff chose to quit and take the 3 months of severance pay instead of becoming indentured servants. The entire payroll staff quit. Essential departments are now down to 1 or 2 and in some cases 0 engineers. It is only a matter of time for the site to crash. Seriously if Elon Musk wanted to get rid of $44 billion he could have donated it to charitable organizations and done so much good with it instead of destroying Twitter.
Elon Musk is set to lose 75 percent of his remaining workforce after hundreds resigned following his 5pm ET deadline for employees to get 'hardcore.'

I'm really hoping Twitter will actually be a forum where everyone has the opportunity to express their views. Just think: free speech. What a novel idea.

@NJChicaa No. It wasn't. If you spoke with a conservative point of view you were suspended or banned. Name one liberal banned from Twitter. You can't. Because none were.

@TheSojourner A big fat yes to what you just said. And some think their way is the only way and it’s all about amassing more money and more things. It’s just not.

I agree that the tactic may have been less than inviting, and I probably would have jumped ship too. But you have to look at it from another perspective... These are a bunch of coddled, spoiled liberals who worked for liberals who had it WAY TOO EASY. Now that they have to actually have some rules, some guidance and show up and do the work and actually earn their money? Of course they quit.

Why would you assume they are liberals? If the majority are (**if**), totally blowing up the place like that is not the most effective way to change the company's culture. They were doing the work and earning their money. They were just doing it remotely.

@porwest It is only obvious to you because of your pre-conceived notions. You do know that Twitter has employees all over the world, right? I really enjoyed working here from the apartment when it was an option. When I had to return to in-person work, I did. It makes more sense for what I do to do it in person. There are many other jobs that can be done just as well (and less expensively) from home. I have several friends and family members who are still or mostly working from home.

@NJChicaa Why would I assume they are liberals??? Because it is obvious. How many liberals got banned from Twitter? How many liberals got fact checked? How many liberal statements got fact checked? How many liberals got suspended? Beyond that, it's TECH. Tech is LOADED with liberals. It is headquartered in San FREAKING Francisco, the most liberal city in the most liberal state in the United States! Sorry. But I am calling "duh" on this one. As for the work from home thing, the boss said come back to work. At that point it is not the decision of the employee where they do the work. It is up the boss.

Elon Musk is another Donald Trump, his money is his God$$$$ I'm glad those people have left their jobs, they deserve 1,000 times better! When Twitter crashes, I will be one of the first who laughs and claps my hands!

A business man thinking only in terms of profit can never be successful. When you need people to do your work you should also know how to retain them.

Change is the wind for Twitter. Maybe it will survive, we will have to see. I often feel like if you do not like a job, quitting is the best option.

That's exactly what I said on Twitter this morning... spending billions of dollars just to shut a site down when the money could be much better spent elsewhere. (Though I don't think it will shut down).

You know, I honestly don’t understand WHY he spent that much money to destroy them. What’s the purpose? The people who owned it and “did him wrong,” or whatever his misconception is about getting this revenge, he needs to realize the people he’s mad at are now $44 billion richer and don’t really give a rat’s butt what he does to Twitter. This makes me wonder about the future of his “real” businesses like Tesla and SpaceX. Would you buy a Tesla after this??? (Especially considering that EVs are becoming more advanced and inexpensive so you don’t have to buy a Tesla.)
