The front entrance of our house-sit

We are house-sitting in a very nice house that is situated on a canal in Busselton, Western Australia. This morning we walked out on the little private jetty and I was able to take a photo of the front of the house. The rooves on the right and left are the neighbours. ‘Our’ house has three sections with high, peaked rooves. The one you see is the main house. Did you notice the cactus plant with the long flower stalk which has bent over and is almost touching the ground? The extensive yard has dozens of pots of succulents and a few cacti as well. They have also spent a great deal on coloured pebbles which cover the paths and any bare areas.

Impressive, but how is anyone supposed to walk next door to borrow a cup of sugar? That one side looks like a gate, but the other is a wall.

@JudyEv - I love the home where you are doing the house-sit. I also like that they have planted the property with plants that are attractive, but use very little water. More people are starting to do that in Southern California, with all our water shortages!

You'd probably go out the back door and walk on the street to the neighbour's.

Such a beautiful entrance. This is one of many favorite so far for me. I did notice the cactus plants and succulents, soaking up the sunshine.

They have the biggest block in the complex and there are pots of succulents everywhere. What isn't covered in plants is either lawn or smooth pebbles.

This time, the lovely home appears very contemporary. So you've returned to home sitting. It seems good, especially considering that it is next to a river or lake. It appears to be a vacation home where you may engage in a variety of water sports.

@JudyEv I see I thought it was some natural river but can you do a boat there? or the water cannot be used for recreational activity?

It's a canal complex where the canals feed out to the ocean. The house is about 20 years old but still looks good. The houses on the canals are ideal if you are into boating.

@rsa101 Yes, most of the households have a boat here. Some have more than one. And you can fish too if you want to.

There is a bit of climbing to do I notice. With my knees I would find it difficult to do it every day although I do climb when I have to go upstairs here but not every day

@JudyEv When we plan on constructing homes it never occurs to us that a day will come when quite a bit of it will be inaccessible to us. I do go up to the terrace but not frequently. After my accident I can no longer bend and take stuff from cupboards that are at the ground level in the kitchen. None of our maids are tall enough to reach the cupboards on top. We now have a stand with open shelves with many sections that are now accessible to maids and me (lol)

The steps are quite high too. We're not into boating so this wouldn't be an ideal place for us but it's good for a short while.

@allknowing I do hear what you're saying. Some of our storage space is too high to reach easily so we have to choose carefully what we'll put on those shelves.

This is a beautiful home. My husband would love, his family had a house on the lake when he was young. He always loved to have a boat.

@JudyEv There are places around the lake with a private mooring and landing here, but those are terribly expensive.

It's just to the right of the steps and above the park bench. The stem was too heavy and it's toppled over.
