Off to Guitar Center. Will students show up in spite of the Holidays?

I am off to guitar Center to teach a few lessons. I wonder if attendance will be light today and tomorrow because of Thanksgiving. If students don't cancel ahead, I still get paid, but if they cancel ahead, I just get paid my "being there" salary, which is much less than if I have a student. I'll attach a photo of the "big wall" in the mid-priced acoustic guitar room. That room is where I spend my time turning on the charm and/or tuning up guitars. Wish me a few well-practiced students. I'll be around this evening.

I wish you the best of luck in having students come in to have you give them guitar lessons.

I think four of six showed up. I will write about one of my lessons, a woman who can sight read jazz music but hasn't yet learned to use jazz to express her own inner feelings.

@TheHorse Sadly, people still use that term even if they shouldn't.

I did. It was an enjoyable day. I made some progress with a student who suffers from what we used to call "mental retardation." I don't know what the proper term is right now.

@kaylachan I don't care that much about terms. I care about interesting with fellow humans beings in a productive and enjoyable way.

Nice that you still get paid whether the kids come or not. Some jobs don't.

Maybe I'll bring home a slice or two and see if it's "up to her standards."

When I taughtr at the convent, parents were charged by the term. It's good you get a turning-up fee at least.

@TheHorse Yes, which was a bit of a bummer but I was living at home so it was all good - in a way. I got half what they did.

@TheHorse I'm always surprised when young people don't cancel appointments that they are scheduled for.

I hope that you have students both tonight as well as tomorrow. I suppose that Thursday being a holiday you won't even be there.

I hope your students will show up. I remember that we got bored during the holidays and tried to escape family gatherings.

I think it will depend on whether their parents are taking them to visit relatives and if they've already left, honestly. Or, if the students are older than school age, whether the student is going to visit someone and has already left.

Giving guitar lessons, a great way to get paid for having a good time!
