Americans only: Do you "prime your tummies" for Thanksgiving dinner?

Have you ever been a) too full to eat or b) so hungry that you can't fully appreciate a large dinner? I am heading out to my friend's house to help him cook and work on some projects around his house. I "primed" my tummy just now with some sourdough bread, butter, cream cheese, and lox. (And some red onion.) Hopefully I will have just the right amount of hunger when the turkey and trimmings emerge. Do you "prime yourself" for big dinners? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm usually too busy cooking to worry about eating until the food is all done. Then I eat. I hope you have a good time with your friends.

@TheHorse Cooking is the best way for me to add a few extra pounds wherever they are not necessary. I am constantly munching.

Yes I get "prime" when I am going to enjoy a huge dinner.

I knew one person who ate before a huge dinner because she was afraid she would be too hungry and find the food too appetizing ...and would be considered greedy glutton if she helped herself too much.

@vandana7 I have to limit my eating too much food since I do not to be considered a greedy person myself.

We started T-day with a breakfast of sausage, egg, and cheese tart, sausage cheese balls, and pumpkin muffins. During the day we nibbled on chips and dip or salsa. Our big dinner started around 4pm.

@TheHorse This was our 35th Thanksgiving together, so we've had lots of practice.

I usually eat very little if I know that I have to join a party for a big meal. Most of the time I only get small servings also at large meals gatherings.

@TheHorse I do not feel well if I overeat, I did a few times when I was young, no more now.

I tend not to "overeat" either.

I have been too full to eat more Never thought of it as priming my stomach. Just ate lunch like normal before eating dinner later

Yes...I can relate to being too full to eat more. I have that situation around 8 pm each day.

It seems that Thanksgiving dinners are sometimes a bit early, like 5 PM or so. Maybe 6 PM. Anyway, my strategy worked today.

@vandana7 I can't eat like I used to. My parents used to say I had a "hollow leg."

What is priming tummy...and lox? How does it what you ate prime it? You talk in an alien language...actually you are an alien.

For big celebration meals, I will only eat a light breakfast before eating a lot later.

Yeppers. I pretty much grazed yesterday morning and was "just hungry enough" when dinner time came.

You know, I don't even remember such dinners anymore. I think one of the last ones was at Christmas back in Latvia and since them no more,

I'd probably cut down a little if I knew a big meal was coming up.

Isn't that a tad dangerous.....kinda...big meal may not turn out to be as tasty as I want it to be...

@vandana7 Cutting down on the meal before a big meal? I'd take a chance.

Before we ate a turkey dinner(all the trimmings), I ate an orange/cranberry muffin with about three cups of coffee(milk). It tied me over until the meal was ready. The darn turkey wasn't fully cooked! So, Jay cut some white meat off for me and dark meat off one thigh (his favorite) and the remainder of the bird went back into the oven for another hour. Thank heavens, everything else was ready to eat:) We had a nice meal together!
