Counting down the days.

Today is day one of two days before George leaves his job completely and becomes fully retired. I wish he would've waited until after he'd gotten his first retirement check, but if he doesn't walk away, he never will. He cares too much despite claiming otherwise. I just want him to be happy, because he really isn't.
He's been counting down days for weeks now. I really do hope full retirement does make him happy.

We haven't met any either. We've met a few folks who continue to work despite being retired. But, we all have to do what we have to do.

@kaylachan I've met them too. They're the ones who need to keep working because they can't keep still or think of anything else they want to do. Me, I couldn't wait until I reached retirement age. I'm loving life.

So long as all the boxes have been checked and proper planning has been done and he can afford to retire, why wait? Of course I say that, look at my paycheck, and even if I don't necessarily need it—it is damn hard to walk away from what they pay me. lol

The pay sucks, he works for Pizza Hut. New people coming in get paid more than he does, and he's been there twenty-nine years. What's making it so hard for him, is that he's been employed with Pizza Hut for twenty-nine years. So, he can't walk away as easily and needs to basically force himself to.

@porwest He elected not to go for a 401K, we do have savings and have invested in the stock market, too. We got a lot of money folling his mother's passing a couple years ago and he's due to get his first social security check in a couple of weeks. Plus we have my disability coming in, too. So we'll be set finically. Pizza stopped doing pensions, if you could call it that, when they went from corporate to franchise. The little he was supposed to get, we took as a lump sum. which, after taxes amounted to like 1500. So, basically.... nothing.

@kaylachan Does he have a pension? 401k? Will he get social security yet? Just curious.

I think whether it makes him happy is if he has goals and plans for the future. My bro in law has bee retired about a year and isn't doing much, but sis keeps him reasonably active so I guess it isn't too bad. He really spends most of his day reading and sleeping though...and cooking meals, also doing some shopping I guess. I mentioned some things he could do online, and he said he does't want to think about making money...
..Um OK.

@snowy22315 I'm not sure about that. He'll figure that out, when or if that happens.

I hope the same doesn't happen to George. Many people who know him, keep telling him he's going to get bored.

I hope Geroge enjoys retirement and finds something that keeps him happy and busy. I love being retired and didn't know if I would after working for so many years.
