Gifts under the Christmas tree

This is our Christmas tree. You will see that it has everyone's gifts underneath it. Can you imagine the suspense of our family seeing gifts under the tree and wondering which is for whom? Come Christmas morning there will be a mad scramble to search for their own gift and tear it open. What fun that will be! Actually, no it won't be any fun at all because none of those boxes contain any gifts - they're all empty and just for show! This was my wife's idea; she said it would make the tree look more 'Christmassy', whatever that means. When I pointed out that our family might be disappointed she just shrugged and said something along the lines of their real gifts will cheer them up. She can be a bit hard-hearted at times!

I wish I'd thought of that when my kids were still small. One step-daughter had a habit of carefully opening her gifts and just as carefully re-wrapping them before we got home again. It always made me mad that she did that. (One Christmas, all her gifts were put into one box and wrapped with a full roll of duct tape. She still cut the tape off and wound another roll around the box. )

That's what my wife used to do. Maybe she's getting some revenge in now!

@Albain Possibly! Your wife's name isn't "Misty", is it?

That does seem a bit strange. Can she exchange the fake gifts with the real ones before Christmas morning?

I used to do the same, fake gifts under the tree, but real gifts ready to distribute the Christmas morning.

@Albain It was funny to wrap a big box or an unusual shape to make them guess.

It keeps them guessing doesn't it

This is a good idea. We don't have a tree this year as we won't be here and haven't had anyone special visiting and we have very few to give gifts too so there are no gifts either. But it's all good. I wouldn't want you feeling sorry for us.

@Albain We will be with friends but have agreed to 'no gifts' although we're having a calendar made for Vince's brother. He is still feeling the loss of his wife and we've spent quite a bit of time together lately.

That's a beautiful tree. I just wonder if you've prepared real gifts, why not put them under the tree.

@Beestring Yes, we do have real gifts but they are hidden away 'cos certain members of our household would be fingering the parcels trying to guess what's inside. We prefer that to be a surprise
