There was a fox!

Yesterday morning as we were just getting ready for school a fox came trotting past the window. Of course I know there are foxes around but we haven’t actually seen one in quite a while. This one was having a good nose around the garden, trotting quickly here and there. I grabbed my phone to try and snap a photo but this is the best I could manage. Once it had gone around the corner I opened the door as quietly as I could to go outside and see where it had gone, but just turning the handle makes enough noise to alert it that something had happened so I only just got a glimpse of it sniffing around in the shrubs (where I have seen a deer a couple of times recently) before it went galloping off. The chickens were making a lot of noise earlier so maybe they knew there was a fox about. They are safely shut inside the greenhouse and since the walls are brick up to half way they wouldn’t have been able to see the fox outside, unless it had jumped up to the window or something. Or maybe they just heard something suspicious. Anyway it made a rapid getaway and hasn’t been seen since. Today the deer was back. All rights reserved. © Text copyright Fleur 2023.

As long as there's nothing for a fox to bother, I enjoy watching them investigate things.

@Fleura Well, yeah, they gotta be or every other dog-like animal will kill and eat them.

They're so quick! I always think of 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog'

Foxes are cute animals, but not the best friends of hens and chickens. Your poor chickens surely felt her presence.

The fox usually have special smell( body odor) that make chickens feel anxious or agitate

True, but I wouldn't have thought they could smell it from inside with the doors and windows closed.

You did well to get a photo at all. Foxes, like many wild animals, are always on the alert it seems for anything out of the ordinary.

Yes and a phone camera is not as quick as the traditional sort of camera to capture a picture!

I keep hearing some very odd noises outside, generally either just after it has gone dark, or else just before it starts to get light. Sometimes a bit later in the evenings as well. I have wondered if they are bickering foxes but even when they are obviously right outside, I haven't been able to see the culprits!

@Fleura As I fed the 'Garden Gang', there is usually a little good left over for the foxes to bicker over!

@fleura We have a lot of foxes and I love them but they always have that potential for damage. We also have pheasants that come to strut in the garden. Not the ideal combo - for the pheasants.
