Settling into our new house-sit

We arrived at our new house-sit about 10.00am and the folks left on their holiday an hour or so later. We have unpacked now and have logged into their internet so it’s back to ‘normal’ for us. Once the hosts left, we decided to have a cup of coffee. We always drink instant coffee and Vince likes half and half milk and water so mostly we make coffee in the microwave.
However, we pushed buttons and knobs but couldn’t get the microwave to start. In the end, we had to ring the people and ask how to use the microwave.
Hopefully, we won’t have to bother them again.
The photo is of a candle-holder that is in the house we just left. I like it except for the prong on the left which seems to me to stick out too far.

It's an interesting looking candle holder, though... But I'd agree that one doesn't look like it belongs. Has it ever been used to hold burning candles?
I'm trying not to giggle too much about needing help using the microwave.

@JudyEv Oh, I guess using tea lights in it would make more sense. For some reason I was thinking tapers...

Let's hope you're both good at kitchen gadgets now.

@DaddyEvil We haven't tackled the stove top yet. It's an induction I think. It might be worthy of a post by the time we get dinner tonight!

I agree about the one prong sticking out too far. I hope you have a good time.

Agree with you. I like the candle holder except for the prong.

@Beestring Overall, it's just meant to be a decorative piece I think.

@JudyEv Yeah. I wonder why it is designed this way.

Another home sits, wow. You're really getting good at that. I suppose that's the proper approach to take when tinkering with an unfamiliar appliance. Better to call the owners so that you wouldn't do anything that could possibly ruin the machine.
The candle holder seems distinctive. When you place candles in it or simply turn it around to balance it, the longest prong could not be balanced.

When I was in the US I spent a few days with friends and relatives after the package tour I do not have a microwave but had no problem using theirs - I am smart. Am I not?

@JudyEv This reminds me of some vague toilets I saw in the US. Just go near something it starts, go away and it stops Must be something similar. It was really embarrassing. I had to shout from inside and then all those who were inside other toilets did the same (lol) and then we all heard the flushes all together. What a memory I say.

Sometimes microwaves can be difficult. When I got my new one, I needed to learn how to work it. I keep the manual on top of the microwave for the various settings. I love my microwave because it's different from the run-of-the-mill types.
Interesting candleholder.

Ah, here's the post about the new house sit i was looking for.
I haven't had coffee instant or otherwise in awhile. I've only had the canned stuff.
How long are you at this one for?

We're ten days here. They've done all they can to make things easy for us but there are over 50 pot plants (DE will remind me I have to say potted plants
) inside the house and lots more outside. Luckily the big garden areas are on automatic watering.

@JudyEv I think it is funnier if you call them pot plants.
LOL.
That is a lot of plants. Take some pictures of all that.

Did you check to see if the microwave is plugged in?
As for that candle holder, it looks like something that came about in a nightmare.

Do the arms on that move? It almost looks like a pop-art rendition of a menorah!
How DARE they have a microwave that requires reading the instructions!?

It looks to me a bit as though that one 'prong' might be upside down! Then it would have three legs which would be more stable, and six candle-holders. Is that possible?
Hope you can get other things to work OK. My partner's parents' microwave took me a few goes to work out. You set the time and it starts making a noise as if it's doing something, and it counts down and goes 'ping', but in fact it isn't unless you press a different, unlabelled, button. A couple of times I found I was just standing next to an inactive microwave and just got a cold cup out again after a minute!

The symbols don't make much sense to me but anyway we got it going. Now I'm off to tackle the washing machine as I've brought our sheets and we had a week sleeping in them at the other place. Surely a washing machine can't be too difficult to suss out.
