Ivar The Woodpecker and His Friends

Another cold day In January. After all the thunderstorms yesterday, we have cold weather today and the weekend. 34 degrees F for now. Will be in the 20s later tonight. A few snow showers have been falling all day. Not cold enough to stick. The birds are enjoying the peanuts on the deck feeder. And I have placed three suet feeders in the backyard as well. Two are in the trees and one is on the pole in the garden, as seen in the photo above. Have been seeing lots of different birds with this food out. I also peeled an apple and added it to the homemade suet a few days ago. They all enjoyed that food too. In this collage, there are blue jays in the upper left, tons of blackbirds in the upper right, and a favorite red bellied woodpecker (I named him Ivar from a Vikings tv actor) on the bottom. I always enjoy seeing the woodpeckers. I have seen three types this week enjoying the suet. Nature has so much to offer, all year long. Photo is mine. Snapped with my iPhone from behind the patio doors, inside.

Thank you Anna. I learned what they enjoy eating and tried to give that to them to keep them around. I am trying to get better ones with my other camera.

Wonderful pictures. Have you ever put out a banana for the birds? I saw something on a video where a person placed half a banana out and the birds flocked to it. I never heard of such a thing.

Thank you. I have put out banana. The only problem is they get mushy and brown really fast. Apples seem to last a little longer. They like all kinds of fruit. And in the winter, food is scarce.

I enjoy nature and wildlife so very much. It helps keep my mind distracted as well. A great therapy session in my backyard on most days. I have learned which birds I prefer to see and I know what they like to eat. I try to provide that for them. Much appreciated.

We are always putting something out for the birds and the squirrels. We have blackbirds, doves, and robins around here. Our squirrels are named Norm, Norma, and Normette.

He is my all time favorite. Has been visiting the yard a few years now. Usually he comes to the peanut feeder. But this new type of suet has attracted many birds this year. Extra peanut butter seems to be the key.

Love your photos of the birds. Glad to see you have so many wonderful species enjoying the treats you set out for them. It's going to be in the 20s here in Florida too over the next few nights. I always worry about the animals in the wild, wondering how they manage to survive these freezing nights. The poor birds that fly south to Florida for the winter aren't going to be happy with the weather over the next few nights!
