Anything goes when it comes to plant pots

In the photos, you can see four of the different pots that hold plants at this house-sit. There is an old washtub, a very solid wooden trough, an old tin trunk and another round container that I don’t recognise. It seems anything that will hold soil has been used to hold a plant but these are four of my favourites. I particularly like the one of the old tin trunk (lower right). Most pots throughout the house sit in another container so that any water from drainage doesn’t go on the floor.

I like how they repurposed those items, maybe I can do something like that with some of the junk I have around here.

I'm going to give that a try, I have a large pot with a pinhole at the bottom I just need some kind of plate to put under it or if I can find a wider pot maybe put that it in there. Thanks for these ideas.

If it has a hole in the top and a hole in the bottom for drainage, then you can probably plant something in it.

@rebelann You might need more than one pinhole or maybe put a layer of gravel or small stones at the bottom.

The other one looks like car rims to me. Do they have any tire ones?

They don't have any containers made with tyres but I think you are right about the tyre rims.

@wolfgirl569 I grew potatoes in tyres once. Started with two tyres. When the foliage got above the tyres, I added another and filled it with dirt. I ended up with several layers of potatoes.

I also used different containers for the outside plants. I particularly like the wooden one.

@JudyEv It looks so elegant with all those plants. I would like to create something similar to plant some ornamental bushes.

The wooden one is my favourite too. It has a number of plants in it. I like the chain draped on it too.

I did that at the other house. Whatever I had handy when someone gave me a new plant or a new start. I filled buckets, totes and trash cans with soil and planted in it. You can always tell the people who love their plants. The pots don't match and most of them aren't meant to be pots.

@JudyEv I'm sure based on things you've said about your mother before... My mom did, too.

Neat, I think my favorite container is the wooden box on the left.

I like that one. It's planted with 6 or 8 little plants and looks very nice.

@JudyEv I’d does, I’d like to have one like it on my deck.

I love "unique" containers for plants. Nature can take over any space as long as the conditions are right. They're all pretty cool!

That's so true. Plants don't mind where they grow.

As long as there is a hole for drainage anything will do for planting

Most of the plants are looking good. Hopefully they'll all survive our care.
