Random facts and strange road names

A few random facts that you might amusing: Vince read that, with the old phones, Siri would tell you how to get rid of a dead body but the response has now been changed. So, out of curiosity, Vince asked Siri ‘how do you get rid of a dead body’. Siri replied ‘That’s not funny’ which pretty much is. Funny, I mean. Our house-sit is on Doodenanning Road. How’s that for an address? Other interesting names here are Doodlakine and Mulukine. I wonder if the suffix ‘-kine’ has any significance? Another rabbit hole to go down one day. And did you know that double negatives are a no-no? And, for our members who are not native English speakers, there is a saying that the early bird gets the worm. Someone has come up with a second part to this saying that it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese. The photo is the view from the front verandah of a house we visited in the West Dale area, Western Australia, not too far from the church I wrote about. Isn’t it stunning?

The suffix "kine" means "to move", if that's any help to you. It's from New Latin. Yes, I am aware that double negatives will get a red mark on a paper presented to a teacher. (I only did it once. ) I'm not a fan of desert landscapes but yes, that does have an appeal all its own.

It looks dry at the moment but it would be all shades of green once it rains. I guess it does look desert-like here.

@JudyEv I'm used to the landscape here being shades of green in spring, summer and fall and then being brown or white in the winter. Even when the colors are brown here, it doesn't look like desert. It's a plant brown instead of a sand brown.

@DaddyEvil Fair enough but this isn't dry pasture rather than bare ground.

What about the first mouse. Does it only steal the cheese.

The first mouse gets caught in the trap but, once the trap has been set off, the second mouse can safely eat the cheese.

@JudyEv That's true but the second mouse may take a poisoned cheese and die.

Really?? I wonder how it got its name? We often say that about surnames. I wonder how they got landed with THAT for a surname.

I like "it's the second mouse that gets the cheese", this is so true. I searched if kine has a meaning and I get: kine: an archaic plural of cow, kettle.

I did know the 'cattle' reference. Maybe there were a lot of cattle here in the early days.

I think its stunning and I really love those rolling hills. If I were a mouse and saw another mouse trapped by a mouse trap I'd run the other way.

I wrote once about how there are lots of sayings which give opposite advice eg 'too many cooks spoil the broth' BUT 'many hands make light work'.

@JudyEv That would indeed be a view to linger over for quite a while with an appropriate beverage. I passed Black Hayshed Road the other day.

There is a table and two chairs in an appropriate place on that verandah. There is a Tank Road nearby and we house-sat at Tank Farm. Apparently, at one time, there was a community tank at the end of the road.
