The Golden Onions

I stopped by the public market today. I simply must purchase some onions. Sincerity be damned, I simply handed the money while closing my eyes. The quantity of onions costs Php 100 ($1.83). I tried using an alternative, but the flavor wasn't the same, so I decided to buy them today.
Would you have the same thoughts?

We would have bought the onions. Pretty and I love onions... Those are "red" onions. We eat those a lot.

@DaddyEvil Those in the photo look like shallots to me, not red onions.

Onions are a must in our cuisine no matter how much they cost.

@LadyDuck I would rather give up buying diamonds than give up onions

@allknowing Well, I gave up buying diamonds years ago, but I also gave up buying Prosciutto di Parma because I think the actual price is simply ridiculous.

I read a lot of news, sometimes daily and sometimes rather sporadically. Anyway, I remembered seeing this article. I did read some other items about food prices and shortages, it appears the onion prices in most countries will continue to climb until the new crop is harvested.

I am all about using fresh vegetables whenever possible if they are affordable. With all the shortages, I went over my spices and flavorings and such, last fall they said that in 2023 there probably would be a worldwide onion shortage. I LOVE ONIONS! I pretty much use them daily to cook with. I bought some dehydrated onions, to use if I had to. Then I really thought about it, and I bought several small bags and chopped and dehydrated some of my own as well, to use in the future. I prefer fresh, of course. But at least if I can't get onions or can't afford them, I do have a back up plan. Oh, and if you don't use onion powder, you should get some of that as well. It adds a lot of flavor to things.

Hi, I'm back! It seems that onions are no longer that expensive. That was 700 pesos per kilo last week!

Those onions always give a certain special taste. They are very expensive though (and I can't even buy them easily here). With times, I just buy already fried onions

I love onions. I cook pork chop with onions, and scrambled eggs with onions a lot.
