A Lie Is A lie Is A Lie ?

Why do people tell lies? What are 'necessary' lies and wicked lies? I would say 'necessary' lies are told to get oneself out of trouble or to avoid a catastrophe. Wicked lies are aimed at getting someone in trouble , defamation of character etc, etc. Then there are lies people tell about their ownselves aimed at making themselves seem bigger than they are, richer than they are, nicer than they are etc, etc. However we look at it, a lie is a lie, but we can argue that some are necessary lies what do you think? Some are necessary. An example, some doctors know that they must "minimize" the problem of a patient to avoid to depress the patient and that he stop to fight for his life.

That is a perfectly good example. I agree. Stress is known to cause or aggravate a host of physical ailments, so if it will cause that patient to worry less- needlessly in some cases - then l agree.

The worst lies are the ones you tell yourself. It's nothing. I'll be okay. I feel better. Lies to shield another's feelings from harm are usually acceptable but even then, it could cause more harm than good.

@sol_cee Yes. I have been away. I had been lying to myself. I'm slowly recovering from some major surgeries. I get to go home in 8 weeks. So very nice to see you :)

You are so right. Some people lie to themselves in order to avoid facing up to problems , especially with health issues and love relations. A lie to shield someone from harm cannot be a good move. If that person is in danger it is best they know in order to take the necessary steps to protect themselves. It has been a long time. So happy to see you.

Some people might not always want to hear the truth. I think there is a song - very popular in the past - The singer was beseeching a lover to tell her a lie. I don't recall what she wanted him to lie about.

@Kandae11 That goes without saying. Mother and father used to go for a movie but tell us they were going to see a doctor (lol) My husband told me a lie. He said what I cooked was nice but not to cook that again

The aim there is to help the other person - and if a soft lie will do it instead of the full truth then....

Why is it a necessary lie to get yourself out of trouble? The honest thing to do would be to admit it and take the consequences.

A lie can change the set of events in one´s and others´ lives. When we tell lies to other people, any positivity that could have developed is not achieved. If the lie is uncovered, another set of events is developed; this time, causing distress and grief

There are also "social lies" that we tell to help someone feel better about themselves or to keep from wounding a fragile ego that might not handle the truth well.

True. We lie to dying patient that he is going to live as we don't want a patient die before his time. However lying to defame or exploit someone is really vicious.

@Kandae11 The ones I hate that there are sick people and will not stop at destroying what a person owns or and epects them to pologize for what they did thinking they are the victim and not the victim being the victim.

For me, I know two kinds or types of lie. Regular lie to destroy and a white lie to save others. A white lie is best exemplified in the Bible. Sarah was the wife if Abraham but Abraham lied to the Egyptians that Sarah wasn't his wife or else he would be killed.

I think most lies are to get some respect of others, or escape from what is perceived as serious consequences. I do lie...not denying that. But my lies would be to prevent hurt to another person. Sometimes, just to do the work fast.

I can honestly say I have never lied. Honesty is always the best policy. When we speak the truth, we don't have to remember what we say. I have been a victim of lies and deception and I have always wondered what was the need except to gain some short-term gains. I did suffer but I also made doubly sure never to follow their evil lifestyle.

Wicked lies are evil indeed. They can cause much pain and suffering. Someone could lose their job, business, family, friends -- all because of a lying tongue.

Well I guess some lies are for a purpose , some lie because they want to avoid conflicts and confrontations . Others do it to save someone specially if that someone is in great danger. But what I hate are the people who lie just to cover up their wrong doing and for fake news too. They do this to make themselves different from other people , to save face and to pretend.
