I almost had a tattoo

One time in my freshman year in college, my girls and I decided to get a friendship tattoo. I was partially convinced because they were all very excited to be ‘adults’ and having a tat means becoming cool or something. And so I was sold. We went to this dingy looking tattoo place near our school and the tattoo artist was drunk when he met us. The place was crawling with grown up men covered in ink and I felt like vomiting. My friends and I looked at each other, not knowing what to do. The handheld tattoo machine was grimy and bloody, yuck! Everything about the place screamed Run! Luckily my cellphone rang and we excused ourselves saying we all had to take the call. We ran outside and laughed like crazy. We ended up coming to our Afro-Asian English Lit class instead of skipping it.

The photo speaks my mind.

It sounds like that place needed to be shut down. Glad you changed your mind.
I am allergic to so many dyes and additives and such, I have never been tempted to get a tattoo. My oldest girl has some tattoos. One of my sons has one, and he hates it. He went to Florida on spring break during his college years with some of his friends. Of course, one night they all drank too much and got tattoos that they all regretted later. His is a sun/moon tattoo that is not offensive in any way, but he says it reminds him of how irresponsible he was at that time. Ah, live and learn, I guess.

He says he will no doubt have it removed at some point. He truly hates that he got a tattoo.

Glad you didn't. Who knows what you could have picked up there?
That's an interesting subject. Is it required for everyone or just your course?

You made the right decision all those years ago. I would never consider getting a tattoo in a place that isn't clean and sterile and professional looking. So, did you ever end up getting any tattoos?
I like your meme. It reminds me of my teenage years. I used to go to some bad places and do bad things with my friends. I don't know how we survived all those years of making bad choices.

Yes. In Chicago, when I was about 14, we used t go to this "head shop" on 53rd St. or 51st St. or something. We had heard that the owner did bad bad things to little boys, but we were tough. I bought a couple of black light posters there, but at a certain point we realized it was in our best interest to do other things, like throw a football around on the streets. Nothing bad ever happened to any of us there.

That sounds like a wise decision for sure.
