How can anyone stand by and watch this happen to another human being???

Forgive me. I realize this is more than violent and controversial. I am talking about the man, Tyre Nichols, 29 years old...a father, a son, a real person. He died after lying in a hospital in ICU in Memphis, TN, after being severely beaten by 4 Memphis policemen. The Memphis police department released the body cam video of this going down, today. They held off because of thinking there could be extreme violence there, and they were trying to prepare for that. The police chief does not support the actions of the police who did this. They were all arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Second degree? It was out and out so violent and horrible that although I tried to watch it, I could not even see all of it as I was crying so hard. I'm just really, really mad. This is a person. He mattered. He had a family. We treat animals better than this. For the love of all that's holy, why, why would you take part in a beating like this? Did it make the cops feel like big, bad guys? More important? No, I won't post the video. If anyone wants to see it they can look it up. I honestly fear for us all when I see things this violent. These are people who SWORE by taking an oath to SERVE AND PROTECT!! This is one of the worst things I have ever seen on a screen. The difference is, it's not a movie. It happened. What has happened to our country? I hurt for this man and his family. Anyone deserves better treatment than this.

Shame! I read that the policemen had been released on bail. It is a the same as if we let a tiger loose in the streets.

I understand the second degree part as even if they did plan to do that it would be hard to prove that part. I just hope they all get convicted

I usually do not say things like this, but those cretin cops don't deserve to even breathe air. Ever.

Men like that have no reason for being policemen and should be removed from duty, It is very upsetting but I am still confused as to the reason they beat this man,

RasmaSandra, I think the 'why' to these types of horrid instances is beyond comprehension at times. It's cruel, they took a life and destroyed many other lives. There was no reason. The police chief viewed street cams and such, and said there was absolutely no evidence of a crime.

When l heard on CNN that the video would be released today, I made sure not to watch CNN all day. I do not even watch movies with violence or horror movies - and this is real. I just wonder if those men have wives parents, children, grandparents, are they human?

I cant bring myself to watch the video as I can only imagine how upsetting it must be to see it. It's awful that anyone is allowed to be treated like this and the consequences not be barely anything compared to what some people would get.

@MarieCoyle we don't have a power to protect our children and grand children.it is beyond our control.I know how you feel because I have children too. I am living in worries too. But I am helpless. Law only on rich people's side. No one and nothing I can rely on when something bad happen to my family

I am still in a state of shock after trying to watch this, and I cannot watch all of it. I have children, and grandchildren. I have strived my entire life so they would live a good life, and used to be proud to live in the US. Now, I worry about their futures daily. Will they have a future? Will any of us have one? Some people seemed determined to kill and destroy anyone and everyone. Just gut-wrenching.

I have no words, this is a shame, those policemen do not deserve a "human" treatment and jail is not enough. They should go through what they did to their victim.

I have put quite a bit of thought in to all of this. I don't think the policemen did any thinking at all about the consequences of their actions. They killed a man. Left his baby without a father. Grieving parents. Then they ruined their own lives and no doubt their own families will suffer forever. All for what? A jail cell and loss of life? It just doesn't make sense, and it shows that there are monsters out there posing as people, who, as I said previously, do not deserve to breathe air, ever again.

@TheHorse Yes, they have. Their families, their children and parents, not to mention the family of Tyre. I honestly hope they are convicted and at least locked up for the rest of their lives. Tyre can't live his life, enjoy his son, his family. Why should they get to?

I had heard about this story, but have not watched the video I am appalled at the actions of some of our police officers. As you stated, they are here to serve and protect. I understand they have stressful jobs, and their frustration can spill out into anger and violence if not managed properly, but they cannot act in such a way that it endangers (or ends) a person's life. I feel horrible for everyone involved in this tragic incident, as many lives have now been ruined forever.

It can and does happen in more places than just Memphis, but we all know that. I hurt for his family and friends. They even permanently damaged their own family and friends with their actions. As you said, lives have forever been damaged or ruined by the acts of these people who swore to serve and protect.

I am of the opinion that it might be happening more than we know it does. There are a lot of what are termed ''good 'ol boys'' towns and communities that cover up a lot of stuff and seem to profit from bad behavior.

@Plethos You would be very surprised to see just how many ''good 'ol boys'' situations take place in smaller places, and that they can lead into deals that are a lot larger. Plant a bad seed and it usually grows as well as the good ones--just not in the direction you intended and doesn't bear good fruit.

I am always amazed when I hear about something like this. Cops get their adrenaline flowing; but they have to learn to control themselves. This type of thing should not be happening over and over again in the US. It's embarrassing to be a US citizen in a country that allows this type of thing to happen.

@TheHorse 16% o law enforcement officers are black in America and they kill 16% of the black victims. Hopefully this case will highlight cops are less racists and more thug centered .

I try to face reality on things. I don't like the reality of all off the violence and unrest, the hate and dissention, none of it. But I can't fix it and I sure don't know anyone who has a magic wand to come and fix it all, either.

No one wants to. But it's happened, and in some cases, watching it may prove innocence or guilt for quite a few, and hold them accountable no matter what.
