What books will you be reading next?

I am taking a break from reading longer books. I binge-read books about Donald Trump during the pandemic, and am all Trumped out. I thought of getting Michael Cohen's second book about Trump from the Library but they were all checked out. So I decided to take a break. I have re-read a bunch of my favorite Mark Twain short stories and will continue to indulge my short attention span in the next month or two. Alas, Horse Jr, left my Sherlock Holmes stories in Europe. I didn't actually visit the bookstore shown above, but that's kind of what it feels like right now. I am not sure what I will read next. What have you been reading recently?

I'm re-reading my way through a series called The Hollows written by Kim Harrison. They're excellent books.

@TheHorse They're fantasy books based in an alternate reality where magic is real and elves, werewolves and vampires live among us.

@DaddyEvil It doesn't sound that interesting to me. Is there a lot of metaphor involved?

I think the next book I'll be reading is an academic research book.

What area of research?

@Adie04 I have published only one "qualitative" paper. Actually it was a book chapter. Most of my research is "quantitative." But, as you have probably read, there are problems with "ecological validity," or "external validity," with quantitative research.

Would you be interested in authors below? - Agatha Christie - Robert Ludlum - Amor Towles - Chetan Bhagat Well, some of the suggestions I have. The last one is an Indian English author some of whose books have been used for Movie storylines. As for myself, I am yet to decide but it could most probably be a book in the action thriller genre!

I have finished a book from an Italian author two days ago and I started yesterday a collection of novels by Stephen King (Skeletons). His books are always a lot of pages, I will have to read for a while.

When I left for the ER yesterday, I grabbed a book off of the shelf to read -- Deception Point by Dan Browne, the same guy who wrote The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons. I think this book was about some archeological find in the Arctic, but I only got to read a page or two of it so far. I'll probably read a bit more of it this week since I'm home and ordered off of my feet until at least Thursday.

@TheHorse I have too. This one is totally unrelated to the ones about Robert Langdon (the protagonist in The Davinci Code, Angels & Demons, The Lost Symbol, and Inferno) and seems to be about NASA too.

If you like philosophy, there's Republic by Plato. Since you read books on Donald Trump, I'm guessing you are into biographies. You have "A long walk to freedom" which is the biography of Nelson Mandela. If you like mystery novels there are tons of those. If you're going to a legal leaning, Joym Grisham's work would probably be best.

I like Grisham's work. What were your favorite thoughts from Plato's Republic? I think it was in The Republic that he (actually, Socrates) said, "The mean is good." That has always stuck with me.

@rpinder "Justice" is certainly not blind.
15 Feb 23
@TheHorse it has been a long Tim's since I read it. I like the discourse between the group. There's a statement that goes something like justice gives benefits to friends but harm to enemies. My reading taste is quite wide. So I am at home in a lot of arenas. It appears that you have a wide scope reading as well.

I'm currently rereading my way through Louise Penny's Three Pines/Armand Gamache series. I'm in the seventh book. There are 18 in the series but I've only the first 16. Guess I'll have to visit the public library when I get that far (if I don't come across the last two in a used context before then).

I am listening to The Omega Factor by Steve Berry. Steve Berry's books are so good. Scott Brick narrates most of his books and I love Scott Brick's voice. After I listen to it, I'm going to read King of Fools by Amanda Foody. It is sequel to Ace of Shades which I read sometime last year.

@TheHorse Steve Berry writes historical fiction thriller books. His main character is usually Cotton Malone who is a spy. But in Omega Factor, the main character is named Nick. Nick is a former lawyer who is now a protector of art and artifacts. He finds out a piece of art is destroyed and he investigates why it was destroyed.

I’m reading Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman. And then I want to read his other book A Man Called Ove. I put it on hold at the library and it may be a while before I get to read it. Lots of holds on it.

I haven't had the concentration lately to read anything long and involved. I have a whole bookcase of books to read; and when I do read, I read voraciously. I just need to get started. I have two books about pandemics that I want to read (the Stephen King one is 700 pages long!).

@TheHorse I like to get into the not knowing anything about it except that it is recommended as a 5 star by my favorite book vloggers LOL. I'm 10% into it and so far it is like how this guy Piranesi is taking records of his experiences living in a world where there is only 2 of them left.

For a long time now I have been re-reding books. All of them are in the second floor in my house except the ones that pollute my night table. The only new things I read are news and the junk that I can read online about celebrities.
