I'm going to be a Mummy!!

Look what I discovered today! My pumpkin plant has a tiny pumpkin on it. I couldn’t find another one but plants are good at hiding their babies under leaves, etc so hopefully there may be more to come. This one has five weeks to grow big enough to harvest; otherwise our house-swap Irish people will be able to have fresh pumpkin. There is a watermelon plant out there too but that doesn’t seem to have babies yet either. But I live in hope! And I very much hope this one will grow a lot bigger. It's barely a mouthful yet.

Isn't it funny how you find it hard to see them and then suddenly they are there.

@evilamericans I didn't know why they are called snapping turtles - until I once picked one up to help it over a particularly high kerb

@JudyEv -We love to pick up the flowers to make fritters, but I pay attention only to pick up "male" flowers, only female flowers will form fruits.

If it's ripe and I pick it before we go, it would probably last a month till we get back.

It will grow that much in five weeks? Amazing! I wonder if that plant is called something different in the US? What we call pumpkins are the Halloween pumpkins. The shape of yours looks like what we call Butternut squash.

@JudyEv It sure is. I talk to my plants every morning, and I thank them for every harvest that I make. Whenever I'd do some pruning, I say sorry to them and assure them that it's going to be for their own good.
