Broken dryer and pregnancy

I didn’t sleep well last night for a few different reasons I won’t bother to elaborate on. My husband and my stepson took off work and school today and went rabbit hunting. I don’t approve of the school skipping but they were both off doing that when I woke up. I did a load of dishes and washed a load of laundry when I discovered the dryer wouldn’t work. My husband fiddled with the knob and got it working again so I started another load. After the first load dried it simply would not work anymore. I had a wet load and I am so thankful my mother lives across the street and was able to dry that load of laundry for me. Another reason to be thankful is that I don’t have to go to the laundromat 10 miles away to do laundry. My husband had a washer and dryer set he brought here when he moved out of his apartment. Both have been sitting in the garage. He will bring it in tomorrow. I have three loads I need to wash so I will be very happy when they are both home from hunting tomorrow (again) and he gets time to do that. My niece texted me asking if I was home and if she could stop by. I didn’t ask why I just said that I am home and she is welcome anytime she wants to come over. She came in crying and said she needed advice. She’s pregnant and was afraid her mom would kick her out or make her have an abortion. She wanted to know how to tell her mother. She’s 18 and will graduate high school in 4 months. I am very sad for her as she really is so young and it will change her life so much. She’s 6 weeks right now and due a few days after my son birthday. I hope it’s a girl I have so much of my daughters things I could pass on to her. My niece came in to visit with the baby for a bit and baby was all smiles and excited to see her. She has always been such a nice kid and wonderful with her younger siblings so I know she is going to be a great mom. Right now she is having really bad morning sickness vomiting 15-20 times a day. That has to be awful with having to get up early for school and having a two hour round trip drive. She has had constipation issues since she was little and finally is having it looked into lately. She just had an mri done after the doctors did an upper and lower gi and saw something worrisome. I’m worried that pregnancy may make things worse if she winds up having chrones disease. Photo is of a cute plush set my sister bought my daughter for Valentine’s Day.

I hope your husband brings the washer and dryer set back n tomorrow so you can get your laundry done nothing is worse than falling behind on laundry. I hope it goes well when your niece tells her mother she is pregnant and I hope that it works out for her whatever happens.

@Tina30219 my husband and stepson got the dryer brought it and hooked up . I have cloth diaper covers in the wash at the moment. They will hang on the line to dry though. My niece said it went better than she expected when she told her mother and her mothers boyfriend the news.

@Tina30219 my sister and I were texting today and she said the father of the baby’s mother said she would take care of the baby everyday. She plans to do online school after graduation and continue after the baby is born. I told my sister I figured I would babysit the baby if needed as I don’t want it going in daycare. I didn’t want to babysit any kids like I used to when my oldest were little. This is my last baby and I wanted to just come and go with her as I wanted but sometimes things don’t work out as we plan. My daughter will be 3 when the baby is born so I’ll be able to watch it for 2 years before I have to go back to work myself.

I know this is so hard for your niece. Our daughter got pregnant at 17. They got married, but didn't work out. But Tammy was determined to finish high school and with our support she went on to graduate from college. She had a wonderful career and has a great husband and life. That little baby she decided to keep has been a blessing to our whole family. Please encourage your niece that God loves her and that precious baby.

@1creekgirl that shows me what wonderful parents you are. Thankfully my niece only has 4 months left until she graduates. I’m not sure if the boyfriend is in the same grade as her or not. I’m not sure what my nieces plans were or are once she graduates. She’s always been very hard working and a wonderful kid.

@1creekgirl thank you very much. My sister and I texted a bit today and my niece seems excited which worries my sister as my niece isn’t thinking of any of the things that could go wrong like if the fathers side is awful and tries to fight for full custody if they beak up etc and how hard college will be with a baby etc. Preparing her is good but the baby is already on board so everyone just has to go forward and hope it all works out okay in the end.

I have crone's disease... yup, I'm turning into an old crone. Seriously though, I know crohn's disease is nothing to laugh at. Does she smoke? Aside from how it might affect the pregnancy, stopping smoking is recommended for people with Crohn's disease.

@shaggin I don't have Crohn's... I said I'm turning into a crone... that's another way of saying 'wrinkly old lady' Notice the difference in spelling.

@BarbaraPrz come to think of it she got caught vaping at school twice last year and my sister has to go to court over it. Hopefully she has stopped especially now that she is pregnant. My sister smoked through 2-3 of her 4 pregnancies it made me so angry. Hopefully she is smarter than her mother was.

Being pregnant at such a young age and her mother not approving is so disastrous for your niece.

@allknowing I don’t think any mother wants her daughter to get pregnant before she finishes high school. I didn’t think my sister would be as mad as my niece thought and told her she wouldn’t kick her out etc. She’s a worrier like I am so she made herself sick with worry for two weeks until deciding how to tell her

@allknowing I think people have a stronger connection to each other if they wait. There won’t be jealousy of exes or risk of disease or anything. It’s so rare here in the U.S. though. I did not wait and only know two people personally who have waited until marriage. I went to school with a few girls who by the time we graduated had been with 15-20 guys.

@wolfgirl569 I let my niece and nephew (6 & 10) come over to play for a few hours tonight. They had been wanting a babysitter and my sister I thought could use a little break after the news she received last night from her oldest. My baby had a fun time playing with them. She had woken up in a horrible mood before that and when they came it definitely cheered her up.

Sorry to learn that your dryer went broke, I went through that trouble in the summer of 2020 when Hurricane Laura knocked the electrical power for about one month.

@Deepizzaguy oh wow a month would be a long time to go without it a dryer when you are used to having one. I hate not having a laundromat in town to do laundry at so we don’t have to drive the 10 miles.

@RebeccasFarm I can’t imagine coming home pregnant and worrying what my mom would have said. I think that would be scary for any teen to have to tell their parents. I’m very sad for her but excited too after the sadness has worn off a little. I wish it had been later in life for her as things will be so much harder then she realizes.

@RebeccasFarm my sister is her mom yep. She’s not mad just very worried. My niece is excited by the sounds of it and doesn’t see the things that could go wrong her being so young and the father etc dating him such a short time etc.

@jstory07 I am sad for her it’s so early to be a mom and she’s only been dating this boy for 2 months. It’s so very very unlikely they will stay together for life and splitting custody is awful having to worry when they aren’t with you etc. I’ll just have to pray things go well for her. She’s such a sweet girl.

Oh my, I am sorry for your niece, having a baby so young will changer for sure her life forever. I am also sad that she fears so much the reaction of her mother. I hope she will be fine. Lovely plush set.

@LadyDuck she will have to grow up much faster than she would have had to. She’s always been very motherly to her little brother and sister so I know she will be great with her own baby I just wish it wasn’t so soon . She said she was surprised how calm her mother and her moms boyfriend were about it when she told them. I’m happy to hear that. I didn’t think she had much to worry about with her mom but thought her mothers boyfriend may flip out. I’m glad he didn’t.

@LadyDuck me too. My mother won’t know about this for awhile she slips or hints at things she’s not good at keeping secrets. No one in my house knows either I’m not telling anyone until my niece announces it and tells me it’s okay.

@shaggin - I am glad that her Mom kept calm and even the boyfriend was not aggressive. She needs their help now. I know that I would have been terrified to tell my mom something like that.

Oh gosh, with all the things that have changed with modern life, some things like unplanned pregnancies still happen and still bring the same problems and fears as they have always done. I hope she makes the choice she is happy with. Where's the father?

@Fleura that is so lucky the boyfriend is still around and seems to be a good father. When they are young it’s just so hard to make things work. I know some couples who had kids very young and are amazing parents and accomplished a lot.

@shaggin I hope it all works out. My partner's niece surprised everyone when she got pregnant during lockdown. Apart from her parents no-one even knew she had a boyfriend! But she had the baby and now he's a two-year-old boy and she's doing ok with work and the boyfriend works too and seems to be loving being a dad. So it looks as if it could be all working out in the end. I hope the same happens for your niece.

A broken dryer is no fun. Had that happen a couple of times, but a washing machine full of clothes and water is worse in my opinion. With your niece vomiting so much, I'm surprised her mother didn't notice she was pregnant.

@DianneN I texted with my sister today. Her boyfriend talked about putting an addition on the house and the boyfriend can even move in with them all so my niece, the baby and the father can be together as long as the boyfriend is respectful. I thought that was really exceptional of him. My husband would never do that.

I’ve had many washing machines break like that. I get about two years out of a washing machine but much longer from a dryer. I don’t think my niece is around a lot. She was working a lot and at friends houses and boyfriends etc. She has her own bathroom too and her room is on the opposite side of the house from them. I don’t think she comes out of her room much when she is home very similar to my stepson.

@Judyev I was very worried about my sisters boyfriends reaction but not much about my sister. I do worry though how they will afford this but she is old enough she will graduate in 4 months and then can work full time. Hopefully her horrible morning sickness will be gone by then. Mine lasted until I was 20 weeks with my last baby.
