Maine State Trooper rescues an owl on a highway

Maine State Trooper Samuel Tlumac with an owl that he rescued a few years ago

Maine State Trooper Samuel Tlumac was on a turnpike assisting a driver in Fairfield Maine recently when the officer saw an injured owl on the turnpike. Officer Tlumac went to check up on the injury to the owl whose gender was not mentioned. The owl was then taken inside of the police cruiser by Officer Tlumac where the owl was then taken by Officer Tlumac to the Maine Warden headquarters in Sidney where the owl will be taken care by the veterinarians before being released to the home in the outdoors. It was good that the officer had his thick gloves on as these birds have sharp claws. It was good that the bird allowed the officer to pick him up, and to get him the help that he needed. That is a large owl, so we might think that it must be a male bird, ( with most birds, the male is larger than the female bird is) but not in all cases, are male birds larger than females are, so who knows in this case. I have read that with owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles, the female birds are usually larger than the male, so it could have been a female owl.

@Deepizzaguy I believe that it is rather hard to tell the difference in most bird species. Colouration is often a clue, though.
