Meghan and Harry have been kicked out of their home in England

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, have been told to vacate their home at Windsor, Frogmore Cottage. The Queen "gave" the residence to them as a wedding present but apparently didn't really "give" it to them. I guess it was more like allowed them to live there at her pleasure. Well, she is gone, Harry and Meghan have pretty thoroughly burned their bridges with the British Royal Family, and King Charles wants them out. It doesn't really make sense for them to maintain a home in the UK when they've been living in the US for several years. In related news King Charles has kicked his brother, Prince Andrew, out of Buckingham Palace and is trying to get him out of his 30-bedroom home, Royal Lodge. (also on the Windsor estate) The plan is for Andrew to move into Frogmore Cottage after Harry and Meghan's stuff is gone. Andrew is said to be fiercely resisting that idea. I also read last night that Charles may offer Royal Lodge to the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate. They moved into a modestly-sized home at Windsor but now are said to be wanting something more impressive and in line with their upgraded titles. Meghan and Harry's friends are trying to paint them as being further wronged by the Royal Family. I don't see it that way in this case. They stepped down from their roles and moved to another continent. They've been back to England like twice since they left. They don't have a need for a permanent residence there at this time.

I think Great Britain would be better off if King Charles were the last monarch and all the royals were turned loose to get by on their own devices.

The time for monarchs passed many years ago. Living lavish lifestyles and all the turmoil and strife, it's time to let it all go. Spend that money on the people you are supposedly supposed to be the ruler of, you have plenty, it's time to be a real leader, not just a figurehead.

At the same time, while I agree with both you and @MarieCoyle, I would assume that there is a great deal of tradition in the whole thing for the British people. Surely the monarchy serves no real purpose and is more of a drain on taxpayers than anything. It would be interesting to see how the British people would vote if disbanding the monarchy were put up for referendum.

@porwest I, too, realize a lot of it is merely tradition. I do think it's a lot of pride in having royalty on the part of some of the people. Others are resentful to see so much money go in to putting on a show, big ornate castles, and such. I wondered, too, about what you said if it were voted on, what would they decide?

Did they want privacy and this is the reason why they quit? Good no one needs them in the UK. You get according to what you seed.

@MarieCoyle Harry lived that kind of life since a was a kid and all the Royals do. She knew when she married him. IF they were honest, Harry would have renounced to his titles BEFORE getting married as his ancestors did to marry a divorced American. It's not only the Royal ladies who wear those horrible hats, but all the rich British ladies. Look at their important ceremonies, they find those hats beautiful, a matter of different culture. You surely notice that none of those women ever wear pants (trousers).

I don't think it would be that fun to be really famous. You would live your life in a fishbowl. No privacy. Paparazzi issues. You could never be silly. In my honest opinion, I have often wondered what the Royals spend on those horrible hats the ladies wear. A few are cute, but most of them are just plain horrible. That's one tradition I would not ever want to follow. Wear a hat because you want to, not because you have to.

@LadyDuck Yes, I have noticed that they never wear slacks or trousers or whatever they are called there. I still think that for the most part, the hats are hideous and a huge waste of money. I looked up the cost of 3 wedding dresses-- Princess Diana--115K Megan Markle--265K But Kate beats them all, hands down--332K Think of how many people could eat, and how silly it is to spend that kind of money on a dress a person wears once, for a few hours.

I am not sure Meghan and Harry really know what they want. I think they are a bit lost right now, and at the same time are going to face a real abrupt and harsh reality at some point in the not so distant future when they are long gone from the monarchy AND out of favor with the American public. They will be nomads with no place to go and no one who cares about them.

Except, as I said, living in a fishbowl. And everyone, including me, has an opinion on it, even if we are not celebrity worshippers.

@LindaOHio For some reason it did me. Just a little bit. Makes me wonder now how much he actually loved his mother. He probably was tired that she lived so long and kept the throne out of his grasp and thought he might die before he could take over everything.

In more than one way, so it seems apparent, King Charles is no Queen Elizabeth, and the power he has has clearly gone to his head. Word is he is a bit of a tyrant.

We are in agreement. Mark that on your calendar. Not the first time of course. But still noteworthy.
