Seniors and swallowing issues

Of late I am having issues with swallowing saliva but not with solids. I feel there is a lump in the throat and I get kind of a choked sensation but it gets sorted out after sipping some water and trying to clear the throat and reappears on its own I tried to find out the cause and if it is just this with no other symptoms then this is known as globus - a 'gift' for seniors. It is benign. It could also be associated with psychological issues in which case it can affect anyone. I believe in homoeopathy and there is a remedy for such a situation. But before taking that decision I will be visiting the ENT specialist to get their opinion. It is called dysphasia, very common when aging. My husband has this problem, he went to see his OT and he found nothing wrong, it's only age related.

I think it is called dysphagia I have come across this term while doing the search. It is benign but a nuisance. I just had it a few days ago and I am hell bent on getting rid of it.

@LadyDuck My issue is only with saliva but it disturbs me in the night. I will see that I get rid of it - hopefully though.

@allknowing You are right it is dysphagia, dysphasia is related to speech, not swallowing. I notice that my husband, time by time, seems not to be able to swallow. Not all the time. It is annoying.

Unfortunately the ageing process can affect the swallowing reflex. There is also the wear and tear of the throat as time goes by. It is a good idea to check with ENT. I think an OT would be more specialised on swallowing though. Anyhow all the best.

@ifa225 It is annoying but if I have to live with it as they say 'what can't be cured has to be endured'.

I dealt with dysphasia (along with many other conditions) for months before my brain surgery. Thankfully it was all corrected with the surgery.

Was it dysphasia or dysphagia? Good things got sorted out for you. I have no other issues except the saliva swallowing which takes slightly longer. I am already doing some things that should take care of it but once I visit the ENT they perhaps will have more things to tell me.

@allknowing Should be dysphagia. Trouble swallowing. Dysphasia is a language disorder. Good luck.

I don't know much about it. It must be a throat infection and one must see a doctor for it.

I sometimes experience this but more with trying to swallow dry food. Drinking a small amount usually helps.

I have no issues with food but while swallowing saliva it does not go down quickly as with food and feel there is (imaginary) a lump.

I am glad I came across this, my senior parents kinda feel that thing too and I am concerned because they often get choking cough, saying they just swallowed their saliva. Anyway, I am taking them to the doctor just to be sure too. How was the visit at ENT specialist?

I have yet to fix an appointment My experience is of just a few days. It is more a nuisance than a disease But if I can find a way to get rid of it I will.

This is the first time I hear this. Hope it goes away some how for you (or irritates you less with time).

Never heard of it. But I do love me some homeopath medicines. Actually, I need to buy another kit. Take care.

Your decision to go to the ENT is wise.
