Let’s Talk Eggs

I am getting ready for my grocery order coming up next Wednesday. I always make up a list beforehand and then add and minus items. I have to be sure I have enough left over in my account afterwards. Anyway, last month I did not order eggs because the 18-count eggs I ordered had gone up to a bit over $7. I don’t eat eggs every day but I like them now and then. Suddenly I was missing eggs. Looking at the groceries to make my list I noticed now my 18-count eggs have dropped to $3.97. I will get eggs but suddenly I am thinking perhaps no one was buying can these be fresh? From the warehouse? Etc. you know how that is from one month to the next. How are the egg prices where you live?

I've been hearing from a few people across the country that egg prices are dropping.

@Yadah04 How much are they for you right now? Did your area get hit with avian flu like we did here?

I like eggs, boiled, sunny-side up, or scrambled. So we have always eggs on the ref. The eggs they sell in the market are presumably fresh because almost every household buys them often. Also, the price is just okay. The bigger ones are, of course, more expensive but the prices are still reasonable.

@Jenaisle I like to make deviled eggs for snacking. The eggs I mentioned are large sized,

I have not noticed that eggs have been very high in Oregon. We don't use many so i buy a carton of six.

Eggs haven't gone up incredibly in price here, not like I'm hearing from US myLotters.

oh well, good for you. But from where I live, almost everything soared already, from onions to sugar to eggs. Inflation is real, i must say.

Egg prices here are coming back down after reaching $7 for an 18-count container. I bought some on Wednesday and the expiration date is closer than the last carton I purchased. We eat eggs about 4-5 times a week, whether as a meal or cooked into something else.

I do love it when I notice price drops. Wish I could stock up on eggs but they get watery when they get old.

The price of eggs has doubled here, I hope to see them priced more normally soon, when more hens will be old enough to lay again..

@RasmaSandra - We are not allowed to keep chickens and hens in this area where we live. I wonder who would notice if I "hide" them in an area of my garden, not many, just a couple of hens for the eggs.

@LadyDuck if I was still living in Latvia with that large yard and eggs were expensive my husband and I would probably do what we wanted to do at one time and raise our own chickens for eggs.

Eggs, if kept refrigerated, are considered "fresh" up to 3 months old. The 18 pack of eggs where I live is the same price you're seeing there.

I only buy Eggland's Best. I'm not sure of the cost last time. We bought 2 dozen and the receipt is gone.

@DianneN this time round when I ordered the eggs were a bit over $3 so I got my usual 18 and some little cans of corned beef hash to go with sunnyside up eggs,

Egg prices are starting to come down. I'd buy them at that price. That's still less than what I can get a dozen for.

I'm not sure, when I was at the grocery store more than a week ago they were 4.95 or thereabouts.. I wouldn't pay that much for them but my son was with me and he bought and paid for them. That's too expensive.

I do make a list whenever we go grocery shopping too. I am northern luzon and prices have soared, We used to always have eggs for breakfast but with the prices, we just have it no more than 3x a week. I wonder why the prices are up?
