My mother's china painting comes home with me

We visited my second cousin today. I haven’t seen her since we used to travel on the school-bus together. My cousin is down-sizing and I picked up some china painting that my mother had given her mother. I asked about her siblings. There were five in the family but two now have nothing to do with the rest of the family or with each other. To me, this was sad as, apart from minor disagreements some time ago, all Vince’s and my siblings get along quite well, as do our sons. My sister’s five sons are not quite so ‘bonded’ and there is some ‘bad blood’ between them as the saying goes. It’s very sad when families don’t get along but I guess it’s also very common. The photo is of the cup, saucer and plate that I was given by my cousin.

Your mother was really an artist. As long as we were under one roof we were a family that everyone envied but that tag has now disappeared.

It is very common I think. I've 'divorced' my sibling and am the better for it and the same for a cousin of mine.

Yes exactly. Just look at the havoc going on because of Harry and Megan, to me Harry seems very spoiled and is acting like a brat. I've read lots of stories about how being born royal can be a challenge when it comes to marriage and doing the royal duty, just look what it did to Princess Margaret when she wasn't allowed to marry the man she loved. I'm so glad I wasn't born in that kind of mess.

Some relationships can be quite toxic and you are better off out of them.

@rebelann It can't be easy when everything you do is under public scrutiny. And yes, that was very sad for Princess Margaret. At least there have been a few changes for the better as regards marrying someone you love.

Well, families falling apart or "bad blood" used to be there earlier also. Yet, now the cases have risen. It would need an altogether separate post or a series of posts perhaps!! Coming back to the main point you talked today; isn't it the same photograph that you shared in the previous post? The print on the China Cup is a nice work. In my parental home as well, we have some old China cups and plates. May be during my next visit, I would take some pictures of that. Have a nice day ahead!

That one is pretty too. I am slowly getting along better with my siblings again. But we haven't always

@wolfgirl569 Yes, very much so. My mother and her sister-in-law didn't get along very well.

Very beautiful china painting that your mother did. Some families seem to fall apart, go in different directions. It is fairly prevalent in the US.

@JamesHxstatic Do you get comments appearing twice? It's happening all the time for me but if I delete one, then I can't seem to 'like' the comment. So your comment may not have a 'like' but I hope you won't hold that against me!

That is such a pretty place setting of china. I can relate to 'bad blood' occurences in families. My brothers and I have it in our family. It has been evident for as long as I can remember, but became more pronounced as we lost our parents.

@JudyEv Yes, that family began to unravel just before her passing. It was a couple of years ago already that Harry left the UK to live in North America.

I like the muted colours too. I think it is harder to get really strong colours as they tend to burn off in the kiln.

Mostly Mum seemed to favour the pastel colours. This china is very fine too so suited to subtle shades.

That china set is exquisite. You are fortunate in your family and bonding. My hubby's sister lives within 60 miles of us and she won't communicate with us. His nieces are the same. No idea why they have erased him from their lives.

That's really good to hear. Families don't need to live in each other's pockets but it's nice to be in touch and friends.
