Ground Beef of All Things

Many don’t eat beef due to cultural reasons, diet, or health reasons, but hubs and I do. Although we have cut way back on eating red meat, we couldn’t resist buying 8 pounds or almost 4 kilograms of ground beef that our butcher ground freshly for us and had on sale! I used it to make meatloaf, meatballs, hamburgers, and sliders (tiny hamburgers), and the rest was divided into little portions for tacos. It’s all stuffed into my freezer for quick and easy meals. Last night we had sliders and boy were they good as well as cute We have 7 weeks left in Florida and a lot of food to eat up!

I guess you will be eating your fair share of red meat. I eat a lot more turkey or chicken these days when I want meat. I know, have a barbecue!

I told my son when he FaceTimed us earlier. He almost threw up I'm making an Asian chicken dish tonight and spent most of the afternoon mincing, dicing, and chopping. No wonder we eat out so much

@DianneN Banning cow slaughter is for religious reasons but my not eating meats is just my choice.

Is that due to religious reasons? I know others who said the same thing and those who have eaten beef.

I told hubs I could live off hamburgers and meatballs for the rest of my life. I really love them. Tonight I am making an Asian chicken inspired dish, based upon a Filippino dish my neighbor made for us.

It's so true. However, I decided to make an Asian inspired meal with chicken for dinner tonight. I spent a couple of hours in the kitchen dicing, chopping, mixing, mincing, and stirring and haven't even cooked dinner, yet. I swear I'd rather order in or go out for dinner.

Is it because beef isn't allowed in India? Briyani rice is delicious. I like it spicy.

That’s awesome you made so many freezer meals to heat up when you want them. I use a lot of ground beef here but I buy it in the freezer section in tubes at Aldis. We have a local butcher shop in town but they don’t actually butcher the animals anymore and the prices are a lot higher than Aldis. My husband buys steaks there though.

@DianneN they usually have big parking lots and lines can get long fast but the cashiers are also crazy fast. One of the ones I go to now has about 10 or more self checkouts so that helps a bit.

My brother discovered Aldi's in Florida which isn't too far from us. He found some great items there, so I may give it a try if the parking is okay

I buy 5 lbs of ground beef (80% lean) and mix it with 2 lbs of premium ground pork. I freeze it in 1 lbs packs. Then use it for burgers or in pasta dishes.

I found a new appreciation for beef since moving to Zambia lol . I enjoy cooking and most of my go to recipes are with pork or chicken(most Serbian traditional recipes are with pork)but most of my friends in Zambia don’t eat pork so I have been learning many new beef recipes. Just last night we had beef tacos and ‘twas delicious. I’m trying meatloaf next never done it before.

You're smart not to eat beef too often. I can't eat meat raw, but if you enjoy it, it won't hurt every once in a while.

i wouldn't mind stocking up on freshly ground beef even if it totals to 4 kilos! :D and yes, i'd portion them right away. i bought a kilo of ground beef on sale last week and just dumped it all in the freezer. i was that lazy. but then i ended up portioning them because it got overwhelming seeing that huge pack in the freezer every day.
