For a second, just now, I thought that I had time to make some rice. Then I remembered that I don´t have gas. I can´t make a fried or scrambled egg either I have crackers, salame, cheese and olives. I will have to eat that. I might also have some sardines. We´ll see. I remember that many years ago I saw a beautiful movie about how mankind had changed because they discovered how to make fire. It was awesome. I now remembered that movie while thinking what to eat that would NOT need fire.

I would not even dare make a fire in the barbecue that´s in the garage. With regard of barbecues, I´m not a feminist at all. Men should make the fire and cook the meat and women should make the salads and fill the men´s glasses with whatever they want to drink

@celticeagle There are several kinds of equality. I would not let my husband wash dishes but he had to bent to the most incredible places after a party to fetch a hidden glass or a dirty ashtray (in the time where people smoked inside the houses).

We used bottled propane on the farm when I was growing up that mom used to cook with in the house. We also had a huge cast iron stove we used to heat the house that mom built wood fires in... She cooked on the heating stove when we ran out of propane a few times. We kids thought it was weird seeing mom cook on a wood burning stove.

I saw those iron stoves when I was a child. They are still used in the country here, specially in the south in winter because it helps keep the house warm.

@DaddyEvil I saw one a few years ago in a country house that belonged to one of my aunt´s brothers. They cooked with gas but made the empanadas at the other stove.

When the electricity goes off, I always think it would be a good time to do the ironing but of course I can't!

I am glad that I know how to start a fire in my bbq. I won't let a certain man touch mine, because I was nearly poisoned by his lack of being a Scout and knowing the principles of fire starting. Thank goodness for my having been a Girl Scout and paying attention to more than just selling calendars and cookies.

One of my aunts, who came from the very south of Chile where there is snow and lots of wind, knew how to make a fire outside with one tiny match and no paper. She looked about for twigs of several sizes and placed them in a certain way. She never failed

Why don't you buy one of those small electric stove just in case you run out of gas? I bought when they warned about possible gas problems because of Russia/Ukraine war. It is very small, I place on the counter top, I only paid it $ 25.

@LadyDuck I´m too lazy to do that. That´s why I have all the electric gadgets that I use more on the countertop. My mom kept all of them in their orogonal boxes. If I did that I would have never used them.

@Adie04 Everyone should listen to their bodies. I understand. You are wise. I myself don´t place the bubbling water in the fridge and have to thaw ice cream a bit before eating it.

@marguicha Maybe my body is sensitive, because if I eat cold during cough, my cough and flu will get worse.
