Okay, this is the big day. Our great myLotter Daddy Evil is a notorious music non-geek; however, he has known the songs I’ve used from movies the last two days in a row. Do I hear three???? Let’s find out with today’s favorite from a film.
The Pink Panther Theme - Henry Mancini
You know the worst thing about this song? It doesn’t have a name other than “The Pink Panther Theme.” No “Rhapsody in Pink” or “Mancini’s March” or anything cool. Nope, it’s just “The Pink Panther Theme.”
But it’s served us so well for the past 60 years, hasn’t it? From the series of films to the cartoon to Owens-Corning fiberglass, it’s one of those great, great themes.
Now the kicker: this song wasn’t nominated. The entire score to the movie was nominated for an Oscar (losing to Mary Poppins), but this song didn’t make the cut. What were they thinking??? (Oh, this isn’t the last time I say this in the countdown….
)
Henry Mancini was one of the great theme song and movie score masters of our time. He passed away in 1994. Plas Johnson is the saxophonist on the song, and he’s still with us, at the age of 91.
The song will always be with us.

@DaddyEvil — no, no words. Just lyrics.
(No, it’s an instrumental.)

@FourWalls
I do have a question, though. Are there actual words to that because if there are, I've never heard them.
Thanks.

I like the subtle ways I got a music education in Saturday morning cartoons. Most of the classical and opera music I know came from Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I think the cartoon character is cute, but I rarely watched it. No dialog in them.

Yes, The Pink Panther Theme is indeed a classic and instantly recognizable piece of music. It's interesting to learn that it wasn't actually nominated for an Oscar, despite the entire score of the movie being nominated. Thanks for sharing this fun fact about the song and its composer, Henry Mancini.
