St. Paddy's Day

The photo shows the inside of O Blarney's pub. So crazy loud!! The drumming shook the historic building and made me shake. Loved the pipes but oh my when they are played close. I apprreciated that hubby was able to walk two blocks with me through downtown to the pub- both of us are shaky. Walking past antiques in shop windows does motivate me, though. We shared a reuben egg roll-hilarious but tasty having hot corned beef and cheese in an egg roll. Neither of us were super hungry. We wanted the boisterous atmosphere. We got plenty of that. We also shared a small but rich chocolate lava cake. Happy Saint Paddy's Day! I think I am getting my hearing back. The pipes and drumming were like hearing an earthquake up close and personal.

That's great that you were able to get there. I was hoping you might. Hopefully we'll get some Irish music while we're away.

@JudyEv I'd love to know if its common for Irish folks to play the uillan pipes. (Irish bagpipes.) I probably spelled that wrong. I love those Irish pipes almost more than the Scots though the sound is deeply sad.

@JudyEv I love that. Davy Spillane's playing that instrument gets me weepy every time I hear it.

@sallypup I've seen them in Ireland a lot and my son has groups of kids learning them. He is admin for Music Generation and they have dozens of kids learning all sorts of instruments but particularly the traditional ones.

I'm glad you were both able to walk the blocks without incident and home again. I'm guessing you both enjoyed yourselves or you wouldn't have stayed very long.

@sallypup There are oddballs everywhere. I'm glad he was across the street from you, at least. Good! I'm glad you both felt like getting out and doing something fun for St. Paddy's Day.

@DaddyEvil Wow on a guy yelling obscenities at passing cars and possibly himself- so glad he was across the street. We did have a good time. Delighted me that hubby could get out since he hasn't done much about holidays since last Fall.

Happy Saint Paddy's Day! May I know what the celebration is all about? It seems you have totally enjoyed your day and got what you liked. I love hearing pipes too but not loud drums. The drums could split one's ear drums if played loudly.

@Jenaisle St. Paddy's Day is a celebration of Irish culture. Saint Patrick supposedly chased all the snakes out of Ireland. (My daughter says that means he wiped out the pagans- the religion that came before the Christians moved in.) Its a chance to have a party; to wear green. Most often Scottish people bring their bagpipes and drums and play very loudly at such gatherings cause they too are Celtic. I hope this helps explain what was going on and the why of it.

@wolfgirl569 Wow when that woman banged that drum and the pipes suddenly began to sound off. Like an air raid for a moment.

I'm glad that you got out to enjoy. We are still avoiding crowded places in case Anne's immune system is still weak. We are having a sip of Irish Whiskey though.

The chocolate lava cake sounds good. I’m glad you had a nice time even if it was very loud. Bag pipes sound so neat don’t they!

I'm so glad you had a good time. I don't like loud anymore so being home with peace and quiet was wonderful for me.
