Happy Spring at my house

Ostara or the Spring Equinox is here. There are clouds in the sky but also the sun comes out every so often. This Spring observance is where the Christian Easter evolved from. Fertility. Life:eggs. Rabbits. Imagine way way back when, during the winter, dark and cold days, hens don't lay eggs. (Hens react to light. Less light means less eggs.) So in those long ago days when there were no grocery stores and no shipping of food from far away, a person didn't get eggs. Spring and eggs to eat meant jubilation and happiness. Eostre is the Goddess of the Dawn. I was semi awake when this morning's dawn arrived. How funny that right next to me lay a sleepy kitten named Peter.

That's what was so wild to me about all those people going on about their hens not laying eggs, and thinking it was because of some change to the feed.

@Chellezhere Nope. Hens lay acording to a light cycle. We used to put in an electric light to give the hens longer days. Other truth about hens: they are NOT quiet. Hens cackle allmost as loud as a rooster crows when they've laid an egg. They can keep cackling for over five minutes, too.

@sallypup I know. My grandfathers were the first to leave the farm and not start one of their own, but my maternal grandfather used to take me back to the farm, and my paternal grandfather's siblings and their children farmed. Off topic a smidge here, but I noticed you are from Centralia, Washington. I am a native Pennsylvanian. Do you know about Centralia, PA? If not, check this out.

@jstory07 Peter Cottontail has been with us for almost two months now. Time flies when there's an active kitten in the house.

@RasmaSandra Peter Rabbit did bring me something nice. I walked into the house after I'd been to the pool and there on the floor in front of me lay the little gasket from the blender that I've looked everywhere for.

We had rain. But I enjoy it. I had true jubilation and happiness yesterday. Had a Spring omelette. Spinach and mushroom with swiss cheese. Avocado on the top. So delicious.

Happy Spring to you and soon Peter will be coming through. I knew about the chickens and eggs cause I raised chickens years ago. I did learn some new things today from you. I didn't know that Eostre is the Giddess of Dawn for one.

Thanks for that information, I had no idea although I did know that Catholics stole the whole easter thing from the Spring celebrations of the ancients.
