The photo is of some of the ethnic dancers at the Harmony Day we attended. The little boy loved his sword!!
After the entertainment, we watched the film, Wonder, on a blow-up screen. The adult leads were Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson while the two boys were played by Jacob Tremblay (August/Auggie) and Noah Jupe (Jack).
The film tells the story of Auggie’s traumatic introduction to school after some years of having been home-schooled by his mother. Auggie has Treacher Collins syndrome which is characterized by facial deformities of the ears, eyes, cheekbones and chin. It occurs sometimes as a genetic disorder but more often as a new mutation. In most cases, the face is quite grotesque.
In the film, Auggie has undergone 27 operations to help him see, hear and speak – and to look a little more normal. It is beautifully acted, incredibly sad in parts but has a wonderfully happy and positive ending. It was my type of film.

I love this movie very much it makes me cry. But I am glad that the boy ended up with such lovely and understanding parents to help him. He has a lot of things going on but he was blessed with the perfect family to care for him and understand him.

Treacher Collins syndrome is a really terrible disease ! Perhaps ,this was the reason why Auggie was home-schooled by his mother.

@JudyEv The mother had really given much thought to the matter of how the kid felt.

@JudyEv I'd not heard of Mercy Ships before. I support Smile Train which provides treatment to people with cleft lips and/or palate. These are congenital conditions which have such a big impact on a person's life and yet can be repaired quite quickly and simply where facilities exist.

The movie sounds good and one of my type. I love Julia Roberts. I had heard good feedback about the same movie from someone else too. I will remember the name and see if I can get it somewhere to watch.
That little boy in the picture does look very proud holding his sword

@JudyEv Yes, it is. I can very well relate to that. Being a parent of a child with difference and also meeting such children and parents in my profession. Life is more challenging for such people and their families.
