When was the last time you bought yourself a new book?

The last time I can remember buying a brand new book for myself was before I had children. So over 18 years ago.
My first husband and I used to love going and shopping at Barnes & Noble. He would buy cds in the music section and I would buy books mostly about true crime.
After the kids were born I felt guilty buying myself anything I didn’t have to have.
I’ve gotten many free books at yard sales and little free libraries and sometimes I’d get some books for myself in bag sales when I’d get my kids books. I have too many books I’m not deprived of that at all.
When I saw a friend had written a book “Unseen Party” I wanted to see what it was about because I just love that lady! I looked in up and saw it looked interesting and was a way lower price than I had been anticipating. I had to get it. It arrived yesterday.
I am in the middle of one book and have its sequel to go so it’ll be awhile until I have time to read this. I was so excited to get myself a brand new book and for it to arrive so I could show you.

A physical book I bought in January with some Christmas money. I've bought and borrowed books for myself on amazon. Usually, I only buy kindle books if they are not in Kindle Unlimited because those are part of a subscription.
When the book is part of that I'll pay for or if I have points, I can turn them in to get a discount on another book.

@Shybear88 borrowing books on Amazon is that like the free audiobooks or something? I’m not sure how all that works. I know I could read this book free on Amazon with a free 30 day trial of something but I like having the books in my hand to read and turn the pages.

@ShyBear88 ahh that’s what I could have read this free on was Kindle Unlimited I believe. I didn’t want to.
I don’t like audiobooks either. My first husband did but they drove me nuts.

@shaggin audiobook is a different subscription that you have to pay for. I personally do not want to listen to a story I want to read it myself. Borrowing amazon books only work if the author put it on Kindle Unlimited which is where you can read as many books as you want for like $10 a month. The author still gets paid for every page you read vs the digital copy being bought. If I really like the book I'll buy it or if the author chose not to have a Kindle version of there book I can get a physical copy.

Now I feel like I should look up that book to possibly purchase it.
I do not usually buy myself books.
Our son and my hubby like to buy me books for Christmas.
I usually get a small pile and savour reading them, which usually take me almost a year until Christmas time rolls around again.

I got my mother several of those cozy mysteries by Joanne Fluke one year for Christmas or Mother's Day. I think she took about a year to read them. I think she finished them all, must inquire...those are cute books. Louise Penny who writes about Canada and they are set in Quebec you might like as well if you need any recommendations.

@Daddyevil you read a lot just not buying new books right?
Thank you. I’m hoping the baby falls asleep soon so I can read some of the book I’m in the middle of to get closer to when I can read this new book.

@shaggin Yes, I read a lot but don't have a job so won't spend money on new books. I've been getting free ebooks from Amazon or other online sites.
You're welcome. I hope she sleeps soon, too. Good luck!

I actually have that book in my cart and am going to get it soon. I can't wait to see what @snowy22315 has written.
The last physical book I got was Triple Cross by James Patterson and I got it as a Christmas gift. Otherwise I have quite a few downloaded on my Kindle (does that count?)

@Marilynda1225 I had it on my to do list to buy for probably two weeks before I remembered to buy it
. I can’t remember to do anything unless I write it down.
@snowy22315 I saw it had a few stars but no actual written reviews. Has another local in your area bought and read it?

It has been so long that I bought one. Recently most of my books are given to me by some friends and relatives. I too had seldom find time to read one because I am always glued on the internet.

@shaggin No because I have talked to many people that have it and they say it is not worth it’s much as I read series books but I have another club thing I am with through amazon I but so many books get so many points and get a free book that is at least $3 which most of the ones I read are.

@Tina30219 oh cool
. I didn’t know Amazon had another club thing. When I bought this book it shows I have 91 kindle points. I doubt I’ll ever buy another book to earn points so it won’t do me any good

I am an addicted book buyer and I buy many used books. There is a site called Abebooks.com with great prices and free shipping on most books. Goodwill Books is another.

@JamesHxstatic I buy a lot of used books for my daughter. She likes to just read them doesn’t care about the book looking brand new so she tells me to buy her the cheapest copy. Amazon is great eBay is better. She works at a thrift store and the books there are 25 cents for adult books. The kids books are .25-$1.00 I think is weird since they have so many kids books and they don’t sell all that well. I buy the most probably of all the customers
.

I understand your excitement. I love buying books at Ollie's, but I usually just go to the library.
When our kids were small, I joined a children's book club. I knew how important books are for kids.

@sol_cee I haven’t gotten to read it yet but this is the description it shows for what it’s about “Unseen Party is the story of Shannon Gilbert a young retiree living in a rural development. She loves her house, her life and her cat, when all of a sudden strange things start happening around her home. She has the distinctly uncomfortable feeling of not being alone in her dwelling, but what or who is harassing her?

@shaggin Being a student of English Literature, we took lots of English novels from the library which were interesting and helped us to write our answer critically.
