Jewel Tea 1900's until 1981

Back in the 1960's and late 1970's, my mom and later, myself, would order from Jewel Tea and have weekly deliveries of coffee, flour, tea, sugar, baking items and household supplies. We collected the Autumn Leaf dishware we'd get free from coupons. I miss those days of delivery. We'd have milk, ice cream, and donuts left on our doorsteps a few days a week. The Helms truck would go up and down our street bleeping the horn and we'd race out for fresh bread, donuts, chips and other goodies. The big supermarkets and chains took over and soon the companies couldn't stay in business. Did you have the milkman deliver or other home services?

We lived way out in the country and nothing made deliveries out there. Mom bought groceries in town once a month and she made donuts, bread and ice cream on the farm. We would have thought it was weird to see somebody deliver stuff we could go and get ourselves. My daughter was four or five before I ever saw an ice cream truck come down our street, playing music and selling ice cream out of the truck.

Times were simpler back when I was growing up. My grandparents were on ranches but we lived in a small town. Dairy deliveries were common.

@DaddyEvil I just left a ranch like that. Lived 20 minutes from the nearest town. Sold my little house two weeks ago. Been at my son's, on the outskirts of town by the river. I am not a city or town type person. I prefer the forest.

They could still deliver items to our area, but it's now more convenient to buy from supermarkets because they have everything. They even deliver meat and fruit produce here. But I prefer to get up and at least be mobile and stroll around the supermalls because this is also beneficial to my health. So, all in all, it's good for me, whether they deliver or not.

I never had a milkman cause I like to know how my milk is handled and transported but I do find it interesting everytime I see milk on the doorsteps of my neighbours.

I did when we lived in England yes. Everyday the milkman and his little milk van and had whatever else you wanted on there.

Growing up, we had a milkman deliver milk three times a week. I had a donut delivery when my kids were toddlers. It didn't last long though.

Yes, we have a milkman who delivers milk and other milk-made items when we require them.

We never had "home delivery" when I was young, but all the stores were at walking distance and without even the need to cross the road. Mom went out every morning to buy milk, bread and what she needed to cook for the day.

Before my mother married, her family had a dairy and would deliver milk with a horse-drawn milk cart. I would have liked that.

In my country these people are so popular. We have the milkman delivering us milk every morning.
