After several attempts to schedule an appointment for my colonoscopy (and a conversation with a very dumb girl the first time) I finally got a wonderful girl on the other side of the phone. She explained everything, told me all that she knew about it and we finally ended up gossiping about politics and how hard it was health service for retired people. My late husband said that our country was turning into a country full of poor old people. It is true. What my country needs is justice and better earnings for the working population. There is a great gap between the rich and the less affluent part (the majority). Most of the older people have to so to say stand on line waiting years for a procedure that could change their lives if done soon. I am alive because I have a decent health insurance. When I had chemo, while it was expensive, it was done immediatly and much less expensive than if I only had the insurance that most workers have. And last year I paid around 20% of the hospitalization costs because of my health plan. We talked about all this with the girl in the phone. It is their moment to fight for equality. Our generation threw Pinochet out. We are too old to do more now. Do you get involved in your country´s politics, one way or the other?

No, I do not get involved in politics. This is not my country, I am a "guest" here and I have to say that I am pretty satisfied about the job the local government is doing.

I know that you are a "guest" in Switzerland. And anyway, it seems that Switzerland is not a country where there is too much to fight about.

@LadyDuck But never forget that your ancestors were Italian. And that maybe not you, but other people, have a lot to do there.

@marguicha - No government is perfect. There are little things that people would like to see changed and I count on the Swiss to collect signatures and vote to have their voice heard. They always do and every time the majority votes exactly as I would have voted. I think my ancestors were Swiss.

I do what I can. It only takes good people to do nothing for evil to win.

Sometimes I get involved when the corruption is blatant. But as an ordinary citizen, I always tell off people who throw their trash anywhere, who disrespect other people, and who destroy nature or public property. This is my own way of helping the government maintain peace, order, and organization.

We must fight the battles we consider ours. At this time of my life, I cannot get involved in politics but I can do like you and respect our planet.

No, I’ve basically given up on American politics. All we have are two sides of the same stinking coin. It isn’t worth the time or emotional effort I would have to invest to care. I have good health insurance, too, and I have two options: the Veterans Affairs and my postal retirement insurance. I don’t have to go on Medicare when I turn 65, for which I am very grateful.

I´m glad that you have a good health insurance. I don´t much understand American politics but I´m sure that it has nothing to do with ours.

@FourWalls I am proud to say that my generation threw out a dictator with power in the ballots. He was too sure that he´d win that he did not see that we all were putting up a fight with thoughts, ideas and words.

@marguicha — I don’t think many people understand American politics, save for the fact that it’s a bunch of crooked rich people serving themselves and their interests. I don’t think there’s much of a difference in that anywhere in the world…just the names change, but the greed remains the same.

It is us who have to understand and change. Politicians are there because of us. They do not come out of heaven.

No I don’t get involved in politics it only comes out bad and if you don’t agree with the person especially if you are friends you lose a friend over it

I always vote in every election and am very vocal about the damage that Trump and the Republican party are doing to the US. I contribute to candidates that are liberal and Democrats. I am a member of a liberal veterans' organization too.
