A silent auction, shopping and my husband gone over the weekend

Friday my husband, my father in law and my stepson went to Maryland to a field trial for their beagles. My daughter had to help work at a Silent auction that benefits the upkeep of the thrift store she works at. It couldn’t have been at a better time as the building my daughter works at needs a repair on the furnace this is $700. My daughter and I had never been to a silent auction so we didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous. She thought we have to sit quietly and raise our hand to bit literally being silent bidding. Made sense to me. My husband said there’s a can you write you bid down and put in them they look through all the bids and pick the highest. He was more correct but not completely. People wrote their bids on paper so we could see what the price was getting up to and each bid had a starting price and had to be at least $5 more then the bid ahead of it. I took the baby to the auction (because I had to drive my daughter to it and it was to far to go back home and pick her back up) and got to shop at the store. I bought the baby a shirt and 6 books for $3.75! My daughter won one of the items she bid on for $28. A beautiful handmade ceramic/resin jewelry holder, a necklace and a $15 gift card to the store that donated the item for bidding. They wound up making $9000 from the auction and sales. It was free to get in and they had veggie platters, cheese crackers salami and pepperoni platters, coffee water soda, cheesecake, cookie platters, cupcakes, brownies! It was all so delicious I was in heaven and so was the baby. Saturday the baby was constipated and cried or had me hold her the entire day until about 7pm. So you saw me around myLot a lot that day and I got to read a lot of books to her and cuddle. Sunday the baby, my son and I went shopping. We stopped at guitar center to drop off his base for repair and recycle guitar stings. I recycled recipes, magazines and batteries at Wegmans and found Yams and a poblano pepper there I had trying to find elsewhere with no success. We went to Aldis and Walmart for more groceries and stopped for two quick geocaches while we were out. My mother stopped by to visit once we got home. My husband and stepson got home from their trip around 8:30 pm. It was kind of nice my husband and stepson being gone. The house was quiet and I only had to do two loads of laundry the entire weekend and two loads of dishes. Usually I do three loads of laundry a day and 2 or more loads of dishes daily.

Minus the baby not feeling the greatest, you had a really amazing weekend. Silent auctions are quite nice I have been told. So happy that your daughter's workplace did so well with the auction-that is important.

@Juliaacv I felt terrible her belly was bothering her so much but I sure enjoyed holding her. Without my husband and stepson home there was so much less to cook and clean that I had more time to devote to her. They were happy with the auction results and are thinking about doing it once a year. Those big old churches are horribly costly to heat and that’s just one thing this auction will help with.

@shaggin As they grow they prefer to be more mobile, and want to be held less. Our son's twins are going through that now too. We take the precious chances that we can get to hold them.

@GardenGerty I didn’t notice it tasting any different than regular peppers so I felt like it was a waste of time searching so many places for the poblano pepper.

It sounds like having a weekend with your girls and your son without the other two was quite pleasant, except for the trouble with the baby. That reminds me someone was writing about a silent auction on Nextdoor. I should look to see what is happening with that.

@snowy22315 it was . They had a good time away too so it worked out for all of us . The babies always having trouble with her stomach. I think she has IBS too like me and her sister. It runs in my side of the family. I remember I think it was the day before the silent auction I went to you had posted about if anyone had ever gone to one. I thought it was ironic as I was planning to go to my first one .

@Tina30219 I rarely ever am in that area so I don’t get to visit that thrift store very often. I was excited they left the shop part open during the auction so I could look around both things. The food was definitely the best part

@Marilynda1225 It would have been more fun if I knew anyone to talk to. Some people spoke to me a little but I was very shy. It was a nice weekend .

@Marilynda1225 I’m extremely bad at small talk. I have to prepare myself ahead of time with things to say if I know I will see people I know even

So, it was a relief your husband and stepson being gone. Not too many things to handle at home, right?

@yanzalong I shouldn’t say a relief really just more relaxed and less stressful. I had a lot less cooking and cleaning that I had to do.

I'm glad you all had a nice weekend. I've been to silent auctions but they were held like your hubby described. I put in several bids on jewelry for Pretty and got a necklace she really liked. Walmart held silent auctions for different things while I worked there... Most of the time, the auctions were held for charity events.

@Daddyevil did you get a good deal on the jewelry? I can’t imagine Walmart needing anything to do a raffle for profit so that’s nice they did raffles to raise money for charity!

@shaggin Yes, I did. It was a gold chain and I paid $10 for it. (I checked and if I had gotten it at the store that donated it, I would have paid $40 for it.) They donated a lot of the stuff that was up for auction. They donate money to Children's Miracle Network and ask the associates to donate time and money to help local charities and the community. I always donated some of my time answering phones for the community blood center and for one of the charity drives where people call in donations.

@rakski she worked today at the shop and said it was one of their slowest days they only made around $100. They usually make around $300 she said. I did enjoy my time without them just don’t tell them that .

@sol_cee they came home Sunday at 8;30. Two loads of dirty laundry I had to wash of theirs. Had to go back to planning bigger meals for dinner now that they are home. I enjoyed just making simpler ones for my son, the baby and I.

@CarolDM it was nice just being able to make something simple for the three of us for dinner and not having to make a whole big meal to suit everyone’s tastes. I got a lot more time to just spend with the baby then I usually do.
