What Medicine Makes You Do

So I told you in previous posts about my dad's neck surgery, but on April 12th his wife, Diana, had to have hip replacement surgery. She was in the hospital a few days, and we stressed to my dad when he brought her home not to strain his neck! It would not to do her any good if he over exerted himself, and undid his extensive, and still healing surgery. So the day after he got her home I came over to watch her while he went out and attended to some responsibilities. Diana is a very sweet, kind, and gentle lady, with a whimsical sense of humor. But Diana on pain medication from her hip replacement surgery is a complete and total goofball! She had the attention span of a squirrel, and her little giggle had me rolling. I came over to watch her the Sunday morning after as well so my dad could go to church. She's only taking half of what she's been prescribed for pain so she's recovering nicely. Some people on pain medication, maybe because they aren't used to it, are hilarious. We entertained each other while she recouped in the living room.

@RebeccasFarm I need it due to my thyroid medication. My dentist said if I kept this dry mouth up I was going to end up with a mouth full of cavities.
What was this ambulance taking you in for?

I don’t like pain medicine I know when I took it after my c-section and tubal I didn’t act like your fathers wife. I didn’t feel goofy high it just helped dull the pain. I’m thinking she may have had stronger meds than they gave me. I’m glad she doesn’t need the full dose and is healing well.

They gave her stronger meds than when my dad had cancer surgery, and knee replacement surgery. And both of those surgeries were worse than her hip replacement surgery. I do not understand that at all. But like you my dad doesn’t like taking pain medicine at all anyway. I think it’s good to be like that.

@AmbiePam oh wow that is crazy the doctor prescribed her so much then. I hate how easy doctors hand pain killers out. I tell them I don’t want it or crumple it up and toss it out before even leaving the hospital. Too easy for people to get addicted.

Hip and knee replacements are easier to heal from now than they were in days gone by. I hope she is healing well.
I remember my grandmother having hernia surgery the year I was finally old enough to visit patients in hospital rooms. The first thing Gram said when they wheeled her back from recovery was she wanted a hot turkey sandwich. It was all my great-aunt and I could do to not giggle.

Oh I am glad it was a good and fun experience.I have not often had pain medicine, and one of them literally made me see little thought bubbles above people's heads.

I was on morphine after some ortho surgery years ago.
I probably had the attention span of a squirrel, I slept alot because when I was awake they had me so over medicated that I hallucinated all of the time.
I kept quiet as a result.
I suffered from withdrawal when I stopped taking it, it was hard for a couple of days, but I knew that it was wrong to be on that stuff as it clouded my thought process.

What a funny story. I have a low tolerance to pain and a high tolerance for pain meds; so they usually don't work too well for me.

It’s nice that you could stay with her while he was away.
