The wake is after lunch so I have the black beans cooked.
We did not find the dry oregano nor the smoked dry pimiento so I´ll do what I can. Anita is dicing some fresh pimiento and some leeks that were in the fridge. I bought garlic and more onions and that´s the most important part of the dish.
In a few moments I´ll go and put together all the ingredients. I have to caramelize the onions with the garlic, leeks and other ingredients. Fotunatly I found the cumin and have molasses that are also part of the dish.
And I´m nice and showered and my hair is clean. Maybe I should wear something over it so it doesn´t smell like onion.
Anita will bring me more black beans as a gift one of these days. She is as dumb as Leticia. They watched a soap opera where only slaves ate black beans and decided that it was slave food.
As I see it, they are much better than other beans. And they are the only beans that don´t irritate my tummy.
After all, I did have time to mylot a bit. Now I´m off to the kitchen.

Black beans are present in many Mexican dishes. I've never heard that they were slave food!

Anita and Leticia learned it through a soap opera. I don´t think that soap operas are based on historical truths

@MarieCoyle Both Anita and Leticia are maids and have not gone to school for more than 2 or 3 years. Now everyone goes to school until highschool but some decades ago, in my country, country people did not have enough schooling. And parents did not let girls go to scchool as they thought that learning was not for women. Both first listened to romance on radio and later on on TV in soap operas made in Spanish.
But both of them have another kind of knowledge that is not given in schools or books.
The wake was very sad but I know that I had to be there.

I honestly think a lot of people either don't know how to fix beans, or they don't want to. They are so good, good for you, and affordable as well. I'm glad you enjoyed yours today.
I have not ever known anyone who would admit to actually believing anything they even heard on a soap opera. Well, to be honest I don't know anyone who admits to watching soap operas. I am sure there are people that do, or they wouldn't be on TV, I am just not interested in them.
I hope the wake wasn't too difficult for you, and that you didn't tire out from that. You are always busy trying to recover and working on your home, I know.

Interesting that black beans are the only beans that don't hurt your tummy. They are the only beans that make me gag.

Not even Leticia is perfect. But she is very close to perfection so I don´t mind. It´s her loss

@JudyEv But I should do a little checking about the way people who worked in great plantations ate.

@kobesbuddy My mother did that too. I had never seen black beans until I visited Venezuela over 25 years ago. And then I ate them in another way in Mexico.

I had my laugh then. The soap opera was a Colombian one called "The white slave". If we found even FOOD politically incorrect for one thing or another, we would starve.
In the US, although white people treated natives very badly, they learned to eat what they had. Turkey was the first protein the pilgrims had eaten for a long time. And corn was a wonderful source of carbs.
