Sometimes it pays to be old

So, yesterday after my eye doctor appointment, getting new glasses by the way, yay..It will be interesting to have new frames. I stopped at Walmart to grab a few items, and was able to use a small giftcard that still had a bit of cash on it to pay for them. After that I went to Captain D's seafood. I saw on their order board that they were doing senior meals on Sun and Weds. It didn't really dawn on me that it was Weds. until I went to pay at the window, and the sign was there about every day was senior drink day where you could get the drinks for a buck. I mentioned to the order taker I was a senior and he discounted the price of my whole meal plus the drink and the whole thing was 5 bucks less. There are alot of places that offer senior discounts, the trick is remembering to ask for them. Have you ever gotten a senior discount?

You'd be surprised. For Walgreens all you need is an AARP card, (which you can get at 50) and you get their discounts, which last time they didn't check.. Alot of places start Senior Discounts at 55...Bob Evans and others. Check online for info.

@snowy22315 Thanks. When we start eating out again, I will check. Otherwise, we only shop at Walmart.

Wow that really was quite a deal. My father loved getting the senior discounts as soon as he was old enough.

@snowy22315 i can understand that people may get mad if offered a discount when they aren’t old enough and just assuming by how old they look

@shaggin It didn't make me mad, I was just happy to have the discount! Things like that don't usually happen to me though, as I look younger than my age.

Yes, They are out there, but often you have to look for them, or ask about them.

I’m not yet old enough for a senior discount, but I remember how excited my dad was the first time he got a senior discount. He was comical excited!

Ha, Ha..I don't really look like a senior but one time I got a senior discount just because I had some gray in my hair. I was only about 55 then, but I think they had a lenient policy. Places differ in what they offer.

@snowy22315 You have the best of both worlds in getting a discount without looking like you qualify!

It is mandated by law in our country that senior citizens should be given a 20% discount on all food outlets, medicines, doctor's fees, and in many more establishments. We have also what we call the priority lane for seniors and persons with disabilities in all offices, which facilitates the services for seniors and PWDs. Just today, I filed a complaint about a certain fast food because they had no priority lanes for seniors and I hope this will get resolved soon.

@snowy22315 Yes, it is! I was in awe when I learned that we have such a law that other countries don't have.

We are not so lucky here, nowhere I see "senior discounts". May be too many seniors live in this country.

@snowy22315 - This is what I thought. I think it's because this would be considered "discrimination". Why to offer discounts to seniors who may be are very rich people and not to those who are young and struggle to pay their bills every month? I have to agree on this. In this area we have many very rich seniors.

I rarely go out to eat and if I do it's always Lucy's Cafe, I love their Mexican combo plate but no senior discounts are given there.

Clothing stores have it sometimes, and other services in the community. Sometimes if you ask, you might be surprised what is offered. We have gotten money off car repairs and septic cleaning. Movie theaters, grocery stores etc.

I was lucky it was posted in two places. I thought he was being very nice, by discounting the whole meal when I only thought the drink would be discounted..but since it was one of their "senior days" I got a discount on the whole meal.
