I Can't Find the Title for my Car...

And apparently that isn't going to be a problem at all. I knew Arizona had moved to electronic titles since we paid off our last loan, but I didn't realize that I could complete my title transfer electronically even though I still have a paper title. I'll keep looking for it because I know I saw it within the last few months... I'm betting I put it "where I won't lose it" when I started reorganizing all of our important paperwork. I did find my Social Security card, though... which is fortunate, because I had no idea I should be looking for it! Beats me why it wasn't in the safe where it belongs.

We don't have a safe... In my sock drawer there's one envelope with Pretty's name on it and one with my name on it. Important documents go in one or the other envelope. That way they're easy for me to find when we need them. (Pretty had to renew her state ID a couple of weeks ago and started panicking when she couldn't remember where her birth certificate was... I told her to relax and pulled it out of her envelope.)

My system is usually similar, but I keep everyone's envelopes in the safe just because it's fireproof. I'm starting to think that Arizona is really lax on their renewal requirements. I've never had to provide anything other than my license to get it renewed, and they only insist on a new photo occasionally. (Actually, my license doesn't expire until 2151, which is doubly absurd when you realize it effectively expires when they require an updated picture after 8-12 years or whatever it is. )

@DaddyEvil Way more sensible than the way we do it here! ...but I don't mind not dealing with the hassle of bringing documentation.

@yukimori Oh, wow! My license expires in six years and they take a new picture when I renew. And yes, I have to present my birth certificate and one piece of mail with my current address on it. (The mail has to have a postmark within the last month.)

Technology to the rescue. Maybe the title is in between some other papers.

@yukimori .........You might want to go ahead and get a hard copy just incase you need it down the line.

I'm hoping it is. At least not being able to find it won't be a problem, though. They've stopped issuing them in person so it'd be about six weeks to get a duplicate in the mail.

@celticeagle I just found the darn thing. It was actually exactly where I thought it was, but it had fallen down between some other things and we must have missed it when we looked before. We're trading it in tomorrow, so no need for a replacement either way.

Yeah, it's crazy how it worked out. I felt like I needed to go to the Nissan dealership that sold us our last car, so I did. Salesguy came right out within seconds of us hitting the first line of cars... just happened to be the guy we wanted to deal with who did our last deal six years ago. They have a cash for clunkers thing going on, so I'll get way more than scrap value for the car I need to get rid of. And... they have exactly one Versa coming in this month. It's the first one they've received in ages that wasn't presold before it left the factory. I put a deposit down on it yesterday, so it's officially mine pending arrival on Thursday and completion of the paperwork.

The title of the car MUST be in the car (or in my purse) all the time. I know where it is..

We have a separate registration document that has to stay with the vehicle along with the proof of insurance. I think they've been moving towards electronic copies for that, too.

@yukimori - The registration document is all we have, we do not have a title, insurance is mandatory and proof of insurance must stay in the car.

You think you have problem locating docs and such you should see how it was for me when I returned to the US from Latvia, I could not find half of what I needed and it took a long time to realize I had all I needed and nothing got lost,

It's really strange how these things can disappear so easily.

I'm convinced they're growing legs and walking off entirely on their own. My mother-in-law and I spent all afternoon yesterday looking for hers. Unless she lucked out and found it today I'll have to run her over to the Social Security office to get a replacement tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers that she won't need proof of citizenship, because she can't find her birth certificate either.

@yukimori Oh no!! That would really be the pits. Our son needs his birth certificate. I (and he) only have an Extract of Birth but apparently that's not enough.
