Sri Lanka has huge amount of coastal lands. The turtles are propagated in the coastal lands. There is Kosgoda turtle reserve in Bentota and Beruwala in Sri Lanka. From tiny turtles to the older ones there are different tanks where they are propagated. They are protected from being eaten by other larger animals.

What happens to the turtles once they're adult?

thanks Judy Sanjeevji and Laura in Kosgoda the adult turtles are allowed to mate. But when the eggs are hatched they are carried and brought to the tanks where there is protection of not being eaten up

Do they release some of the turtles out into the ocean there? Or are they propagating them for food?

@sathviksouvik Oh, okay... Their site doesn't say they release them into the ocean so I really wondered how they were "saving" the turtles.

@DaddyEvil thanks DE at least for 10 years they are kept in the turtle reserve. So the population is increased. thereafter the adult turtles can protect themselves

I can not tell if the photo of the turtle is a real one or a statue. It looks like it is too dry if it is alive.

That is good, it is a very well sculpted statue. Those turtles are so fragile it would not be good for them to have someone hold them.

It's good to have an area to protect the turtles. BTW, is the turtle in the picture a real one?
