This afternoon, Jay and I found a nice lot to build our home on. This property is about 1/4 mile from where we're presently living in a rental house.
This was the first step, next we need to spend time clearing the property. Jay is especially happy with the price and the location.
We went to Bay City this week and viewed a very small lot. It was listed for twice as much money, as this one! I figured the real estate prices would go up, the close we got to the city.
Not to mention, we will be living ten miles from Tawas City, the place that I've always loved. We will be residing about 1/2 mile from Lake Huron, another plus that makes me smile.

How very nice that you've found a plot of land in the right area at a good price. I hope that the rest of the process is as positive.

Looking for property, I thought that would be simple. It ended up being hard, the prices were far too high the closer we traveled towards Bay City. One lot located beside Lake Huron was almost $300,000! I couldn't believe my ears, when Jay told me how much!

@celticeagle Somebody would have to be nuts, to pay this huge amount for a lot near the water!

@kobesbuddy This is such wonderful news. I know that Jay is pretty good as a handy man, I imagine he will do part of the job himself.

@LadyDuck I was worried, we didn't have any property to start building on:( Now, we can hire a man to put in the cement foundation and then, purchase the lumber to frame in our new house.

@RebeccasFarm It will take us about three months to frame it in and Jay is hiring a company to put the roof on. The indoors work and designing, will be our personal project to complete:)

We sold our home three months ago. We moved into a rental house for three-four months, until our new house is finished.

@just4him Now, we have all summer to get the foundation put in(by a man who does this for a living.) The basic framing in will take about two days. Then, Jay is hiring a company to roof it. All the indoor work, that will be our personal project for the next year. Jay is pretty happy about this!

@kobesbuddy My first wife and I had a vacation house built. It was an interesting process.
I'm sure you'll love it when everything is done.

The owner of this property lives in another state. So, once she signs all the legal documents and we get the ownership title. Then, we can get things rolling. I'd have to say, in about two weeks. Jay is hiring a man to put the foundation in. The framing in, that will take about two days using a crew of five men. Jay will hire a roofing company, to put the roof on. The inside work, that's our own personal project:)
