For energy savings as we have all heard keeping appliances unplugged is best. Also, I am sure it is safer and causes fewer fires as well. I always have my coffee pot plugged in, excpet for when I unplug it for something else like I did the other day. I also keep the modem and router plugged in all the time. lamps, and can opener. I also tend to keep the bender plugged in, but I don't know why I don't use it that often. Also, seasonally a space heater or tower fan. I also have some devices that are supposed to save electricity plugged in..don't know if they work, but they don't hurt. I used to keep the electric toothbrush plugged in, but the one I have now, charges with the computer...and doesn't need it often. what stays plugged in at your place, if anything?

Yes, I forgot the washer and dryer. I would imagine most keep those plugged in as well as electric locks. My clock is always plugged in too.

It seems that some things do not use more energy if they are plugged. The TV and other devises have a red button and that uses a bit of electricity. Still I keep it plugged. The microwave oven has a clock that uses electricity and it is plugged in too. But I don´t spend so much in electricity because I save in other ways. All my bulbs are LED and many of my biggest appliances are high saving. And I think before opening the freezer so that I don´t have the door open for too long a time.

In the kitchen the only constants that are plugged in besides the fridge and stove are the microwave and coffee maker. We keep both televisions plugged in, although one of them goes days without being used. We also always keep the printer plugged in as well as any lamps. I prefer to store the majority of my kitchen appliances in the cupboards, so they are unplugged. But I think that is the norm for most people.

I put appliances away that aren't used very often like the air fryer and crockpot for instance.

@Juliaacv Althought I have a lot of cupboards...they are also pretty full, so would have to make room for the toaster.

My freezer and refrigerator are always plugged in, as well as the washing machine, the big oven, my coffee machine and the TV. I know that everything with a clock consumes electricity. I turn off the computer during the night and I turn off the red button on the plug, that one at least does not consume.

@snowy22315 It just started storming. I can hear the rain beating down even over the thunder. At about 1:30 pm the thermometer on our front porch showed 81F but my phone showed the RealFeel at 101F. Pretty already had the air on when I woke up. The rain is okay except we're under flood warnings again. I hope you don't get our heat!

My washing machine uses a switch so it doesn't need to be unplugged when not in use. Some such as refrigerators, televisions, WiFi routers, CCTV remain unplugged forever.

Power outages are frequent in my country, so it's advisable to unplug everything. Even if you don't face power issues, it's important to conserve energy, as the resources used for home energy production can be harmful to the environment. I personally use a UPS at home that remains plugged in.

Besides the obvious answer of the refrigerator, the appliance I keep plugged in is the microwave. Non appliance items would be one lamp, and my television. So far, it hasn't come back to bite me in any storms.

Not all appliances can be unplugged when not used, refrigerators and so on do not, same as microwaves. Many new appliances do not need to be unplugged. A good thing to do if you're going to be long for a long time let's say a month but if you're going to be using it daily like a coffee maker then it's fine to use. The power won't be much of a pull when it's not being used and the change won't be noticed at all. As all appliance age, they will pull more and more energy when it used which is then when you might want to start unplugging them or stagger what is being used when.

One of my son-in-laws is an electrician. He says they recommend to not constantly plug in and unplug items you use a lot. It isn't good on the cords, or the outlets. He has had several calls that have been fire or melted cords due to constant unplugging....he said it made no sense to constantly do that to big appliances like electric stoves, televisions, etc. But I guess some people actually do that. My appliances stay plugged in, as well as the TV and the coffee maker. Heaven forbid the coffee maker isn't plugged in, it's a big lifeline!
