Now we have the serious endurance riders

The collage is of the ‘serious’ endurance riders who plan their rides from year to year and have young horses coming on, etc. These horses are leaner and much more athletic than the pleasure horses in the last collage I put up. They are able to keep up a faster pace over the whole of the ride. Most have low heart rates when ‘resting’ and don’t have much trouble passing the vet checks as long as they are ridden carefully. My favourite photo here is of the four horses in a line trotting past the orchard. They all look to be enjoying themselves.

@JudyEv It must be a nice change for them to ride in the country.

@LadyDuck Some get quite excited and spook at all sorts of things. It is funny sometimes the things that horses shy at.

Some are mostly ridden in arenas so they like getting out in the country just as much as their riders do.

If the horses enjoy it, I am happy.

@JudyEv My horse and I decided arenas were for sissies. We sure did love galloping through the hills. I will never forget her.

@TheHorse I couldn't see much point in going round and round in circles.

I'm sure it made a nice change for many of them which probably do most of their work in an arena.

I like the horse in the upper left, he looks so proud and tall. I know it's hard to tell how tall a horse is from a photo but for some reason he looks tall.

I can imagine how silly she would look on a short horse

He does look tall and proud and he is a tall horse. The rider is a tall lady but she doesn't look so tall on this horse.

@rebelann This guy is very tall too but only has a small horse. He does look a bit silly.

You can definitely tell these people and horsed get more exercise than the first batch. Beautiful photos! Of the horses shown now, I like the lines of the horse on the bottom left the most. They're all beautiful animals, though.

@JudyEv I don't pay very much attention to the people on the horses... I'm interested in the horses and other animals and plants you usually show us. Of course, I pay attention to you and Vince because you're fun to tease.

Thanks. I'm glad you like the photos. The riders love their horses, even if they're not so good-looking.

It's a very enjoyable sport and the endurance riders are a dedicated bunch. Some of the newbies were appreciating the fact that it wasn't 'competitive', at least not as competitive as some of the equestrian disciplines.

Nicely taken shots. I like all the photos. I think the Horses need to enjoy themselves for the best results. The pictures show cold weather but a bright sunshine countering the effect of the cold weather.

If the horse isn't happy, then you're never going to get the very best out of him.

What are those red things on the horse’s front feet (lower left)? The horses are enjoying themselves going past the orchard…they smell apples!!! Such beautiful animals.

A lot of the horses are fitted with removable boots rather than horse-shoes but they serve the same purpose.

Yes, but the time isn't really an issue apart from needing all the riders home and ticked off so the volunteers can go home. The fastest home 'wins' but only after passing the vet checks.
