This is a wooded lot, where we purchased 300ft along the main highway, US-23. No, we haven't signed all the papers yet, but the owner agreed to let us buy it. This will be sometime next week. I love the woods! But, most of the brush and these young trees will need to be removed. Then, we will be free to have the foundation laid and start framing in the home. These projects go fairly slow at first. Once the roof is on, the finishing carpentry work will go fast. Before Jay retired, the remodeling job took a long time to complete. I didn't care if the house never changed, but Jay wanted everything different. With this new house, we've selected a simple floor plan. I want a house that's smaller, with fairly spacious rooms. The rental house we're living in, the bedrooms are tiny. Yet, the kitchen/dining area is fairly large. Anyway, I wanted my online friends to view our lot, before we start clearing it off. You have 300 feet of frontage? That's great. How deep is the lot? The lot looks lovely, Kharla! I'll bet you can't wait until the building starts.

The lot is very long, yet quite narrow 90 ft.

@kobesbuddy This is good idea I love house being in the middle surrounded by trees actually. Out here most of our house are surrounded by areca nut trees and few other trees like Sal and teak, Mangoes, jackfruits and etc

Trees along the highway, we will keep them, to block the viewing of our yard. This will provide privacy, for us.

@kobesbuddy - I was going to ask when you should be in your new residence. Three months is not too long and now you know where you are going to move, you must be happy and excited.

Building a house from the ground up is exciting, and is also a ton of work--even if you are not doing the work itself. I hope it goes well, and that nothing holds up the progress. Most homes here seem to take at least 6 months if not more, but I am sure it varies a lot from one section of the country to another. It will be a home to be proud of, I'm sure, and you will be in it before the snow flies again, which will be wonderful.

Jay is hiring a man to dig and put in the foundation. The initial framing in will take six men about two days. Then, we're hiring a company to put the roof on. The inside work, that's something Jay and I will finish, over time. As long as we have plumbing, heat, insulation, water, natural gas and electricity. After that, we won't mind how long it takes us to finish up.

@kobesbuddy During my married years, we built several homes from the ground up, as well as completely renovated one home that was way over 100 years old. Most everything that could be done by us, was. It of course was a ton of work, houseful of kids and jobs...very rewarding in the end, but super hard to pull off with young kids. Since it is just you and Jay, it will hopefully go smoothly and well. I know what you mean, get the basics you have to have and then go from there.

Looks nice. If I have a choice, I would like to live among the trees. But most of the people here live in apartments.
