Most Indian homes have chapatis as their staple diet. I call myself a good cook but till today I have not succeeded in making chapatis of the kind you see in the photo.
These days chapatis are made from whole wheat that is supposed to be good for health. A touch of ghee adds more taste.
The other versions are parotta, and rumali roti and I am no good in making these as well
Those of you who have never tried making chapatis here is a video
How good are you in making chapatis?

@allknowing, There are different ways to make chapati. Different place have different method to make it. However, the kind of chapati you have mentioned in the photo, mostly are made in northern part of India. Chapati we call it roti are not easy to prepare. There is lot goes from making the dough to rolling and putting it on to hot tava. If we make little mistake, the kind of chapati will not be made the way it look in the photo.
I have learned to make roti from my sisters. First we need to make soft dough only using water (some people mix oil or ghee as well). Then we have to roll it thin in round shape. When you put it on to tava, make sure that the side which is down should be heat less and when you put it on the other side, that side has to heat more. And when you you put it on oven, make sure that lesser heat side should be downside. And then only you can make such chapati which is shown on the photo.
If we mix oil or ghee with water, it will not look the way in photo.
If I make 10 chapati, I am sure at least 5 of that will prepare like how it looks on the photo.

@allknowing Yes agree. In our house the morning and evening we eat chapati only. Rice we eat only in the lunch.

@allknowing I use the same flour that I use to make our normal Italian bread and pizza, that is not exactly what American call "all purpose", it's a stronger flour.

That is possible. I know that a lot of the flatbreads I have researched have been used by ancient peoples for centuries but each tribe gave it a different name and probably used different kinds of flour depending on what was in the area where they gathered seeds.
