How to deal with rude people online

Dealing with rude people whether online, here on MyLot, or offline, in the real world, would be on a case-to-case basis. However, there are certain methods that can be applied in most of these incidences.
We cannot pinpoint the reasons why some people prefer to be rude, first, they may not be aware of it because they have been brought up that way, or they are simply mean and insecure people who get their “perks” by showing people that they are superior; hence, they feel they are entitled to be rude.
Whatever the reasons, these are some ways to deal with rude people online and offline.
1. Find out if your perception of his action is wrong.
You may be perceiving what he did was rude when he was merely being straightforward. First, you have to know how to differentiate rudeness from straightforwardness. Rudeness shows no respect while saying or doing something, On the other hand, straightforwardness or being candid shows respect for the other person.
2. Determine the reason why the person is rude.
If you are certain he is rude, you have to know why he was rude. Perhaps, you have done it first. Perhaps, you have been rude to him as well. If you were, then you should apologize first. If you were not, then proceed to the next step.
3. Ask the person why he is rude
If you are close to the person, or if you can be frank too, you could ask the person why he was rude. “I find your behavior rude. May I know why?”
If you’re not close to the person, then simply ignore him.
4. If he throws you a stone, throw him bread.
I know some of you may be laughing at this method. But you cannot repay rudeness by being rude yourself. First, if you’re not truly rude, then you would be ruining yourself by doing something out of character. Why should you allow him to rule how you act? Choose to be kind instead (throw him bread). Or you can totally be indifferent and not be affected by his rude behavior. If he is rude, you are not, so why would you become rude?
5. Always observe the Golden Rule.
Lastly, observe the Golden Rule, “Do to others what you want others to do to you.” When you have no option but to deal with the rude person, you should still show him respect. He might change his bad character because you’re showing him a good example. The rule of karma is in close affinity to the Golden Rule. Karma always pays what is due.
So, what are your thoughts on these given ways to deal with rude people? Does this apply to you? If not, how did you deal with rude people in your life? You may want to share them with us so that we can all learn. Thank you.

@PurnaSharma Then you are a positive influence. Yes, you should not change your good personality because of a rude friend. Convert his bad attitude into a positive one instead. Kudos to you.

I would normally ignore and maybe avoid them depending on how rude they were.

@Tampa_girl7 Me too. It's stressful, unless the person is my friend I will avoid it.

I also tend to ignore rude people. Thankfully I've never had to block anyone here on myLot for rudeness.

@Marilynda1225 Then that's good. I've met some rude people in my early days here. Perhaps, I was just unlucky. But now, I am enjoying my time.

People who are habitually rude seldom accept that they were rude. So it's best to ignore them or be firm with them.

@Jenaisle Habits die hard and it's no use breaking our heads to improve someone.

I totally agree with your methods. You should not lower yourself by being rude in return. Turn the other cheek and either be cordial or ignore the person.

Sometimes, there were even some people being rude and calling it a joke. Very annoying. I better walk away when dealing with people like this.

Up to a point I try to give them the benefit of the doubt as you mentioned, and use humor to diffuse the situation. Some people take themselves way to seriously especially with some topics. I will also try to see their point of view if it makes any sense to me, something I believe you also suggested. If all else fails, silence can be a great argument ender for rude people.

Oh, I would be afraid of you then.
. I hope you have no need to be rude.
