Detoured on the Way Home Yesterday

When I left home yesterday I planned on just another normal, boring day. But I took a detour on the way home and ended up at the zoo!
The Louisville Zoo isn’t anything to write home about. The good zoos around here are in St. Louis (one of the best!!! Not to mention where I saw a giraffe born) and Cincinnati. But it’s nice enough, and it was a pleasant afternoon.
My highlights included the meerkats!!! I love those little things. A couple even came over and appeared to be posing for me. 
That’s the meerkat in the lower left photo above.
Top right is @LouAvul ‘s spirit animal, the sloth! 
I know how she loves sloths, so I sent her a photo of the sloth getting attention from the staff. They are really cute, too.
At the lower right is a green-ass snake.. I mean, THAT is green!!!! A lot of the snakes in the reptile area are barely visible, which shows off their camouflage abilities well. Not this bad puppy…I don’t think we have grass that green around. (Well, especially not in Kentucky, where there’s a blueish hue to ours.)
And at the top left, you see me feeding a giraffe. 
I love giraffes. As I mentioned, I went to the St. Louis Zoo in 1999 when we had a trivia party in St. Louis. I didn’t see a thing in the zoo except a baby giraffe being born. AND it stood up not too long after its birth, too!!
That time in St. Louis was definitely the best experience I’ve ever had at a zoo, but the detour on the way home to our little zoo was quite enjoyable as well!

That green certainly IS green. God makes some cool animals, that's for sure. I can't decide which picture of yours I like more, but it is probably the meerkat. The best zoo I ever went to was the San Diego Zoo, but I've never been to the zoo in St. Louis...

If you remember or have heard of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, Marlin Perkins was affiliated with the St. Louis Zoo.
Oh, it’s also free!
I loved all those animals from the San Diego Zoo that were on Carson. I’ve never been there,though.

Feeding the giraffe was incredible. You can’t imagine how big those creatures are until you’re looking one in the face. And so very gentle, too!

What a cool photo of you and the giraffe. What was on today's menu anyway? I have not been to a zoo in a dog's age (sorry about the pun) but it looks like fun!

I don’t know, they didn’t let me cook for the giraffe. They just gave me a bowl of “giraffe kibble” or whatever.
It’s the first time I’ve been to a zoo in a long time myself!!

The zoo is always fun. I haven't been to a real zoo in a few years though. However, there is a park in Richmond that has a lot of native species..including black bears. I have gone there a few times in recent years. There is a fox that comes out and smiles for the camera...I swear it does. I got the see the bears one time swimming, their enclosures borders the river and contains part of it.playing with a stick and rolling a ball. It was neat.

I love the wildlife habitats/rehabilitation places in some parks. I’ve been to a few of them between “real zoo” visits.

Going to Zoo did liven up an otherwise boring day ! I haven't seen both the sloth and the meerkat in person.

I think Mardi Gras is enough of a zoo! 
There are very few zoos I’ve been to in adulthood. I need to change that.

I think that snake is eradicated, irritated, radiation warning. how do you say radiation, radiated.. Haha. Chernobol snake and Meerkats are awesome. I am glad you had fun. Zoo's my favorite place in the world. Animals much better than people, except for the smell.

The wildest place at the zoo was the splash park for kiddies. So obviously I agree with your assessment.
