Washing Fanatic?

Am l? - or is it done my way by the majority of persons?. I never wear the same items of clothing a second time unless they are washed. Whether soiled or not, worn for an entire day or only four hours, when l take them off - into the laundry basket they go. The only item of clothing l would wear twice or thrice before washing would be Jeans, or a jeans jacket. I also never wear store bought clothes without washing them first. So, anyone out there who does it like me? I do laundry twice or thrice a week. What about you?

With my clothes, if there is no dirt or stains on them, I’ll wear them a second time before washing them. This is mostly because I am trying to make my clothes last as long as they can. My T-shirts tend to look faded if I wash them constantly.

@Fleura That’s why I hate to do it so often.

Washing, especially in a machine, wears clothes out as well as causing them to fade.

Yes that is one drawback l have noticed, constant washing will weaken or fade some fabrics.

That depends. If I think that looks fine and there is no smell and no dirt, I may wear it a second time before washing.

Yes it depends. I like everything l wear to be absolutely fresh - the weather here is hot most of the time anyway.

It depends if I happen to get something dirty, I may only wear it once...if it is something that passes the smell test, and looks fine...I will wear it a second time. Usually only 1x per week for laundry for me, unless I am washing bedding or something.

Yes you can make the decision if you would wear the item once or twice.

Mostly I am like you but when it comes to clothes I wear to work in the yard I do not care as long as they are not muddy, I only wear yard clothes here at home when I do my yard work.

I do wear my clothing more than one time, unless something splatters and soils them. We do laundry once a week, because we are presently using a laundry mat. It's too expensive, to use it more often. Yes, our bedding is often cleaned, we don't ever live dirty. Yes, I wash new clothing before wearing it. If I get sweaty or dirty, my clothes only get worn once.

Two weeks ! That would take many loads of washing, imagine if you were washing all of that by hand.

We are pretty much like you. Covid times have made me more of a germaphobe (well, loosely . . . it made me much more conscious of these things) so into the laundry all the clothes go! I have a family of 4, so in most cases I do one load a day.

In the height of covid if l had to visit the hospital for any reason , even my head would be covered. I would also leave my shoes outdoor when l got home.

@much2say l usually take mine off when l open the door and get in but during covid l took them off outside on the veranda and left them there. They claim that the covid germ may stay on certain surfaces for longer or shorter periods of time - depending on where it lands.

I do laundry twice a week and wash new clothes before wearing them. My clothes also go in the hamper/dirty laundry basket after I'm done with them for the day.

I'm sure some people do it like you but there are also people out there that don't. I'll wear many items for several days before washing them depending on what it is. I don't feel sweaters or jackets need to be shared because I was cold and wore them outside. I'll wear bars two to three times a day typically because I don't wear them unless I leave the house. Panties I change out daily unless I'm on my period then I stick to the same pair. jeans I'll wear for several days. If I sweat in it it goes into the baskets. Socks are the same way I'll wear them for a few days unless they get dirty or sweaty.

@Kandae11 I don't think it has anything to do with climate of the country you are living in. Its a personal choice when someone wash something it's because your choice to. I don't wash things from the store either before wearing them some people do some people don't, But I also worked retail and when it looks like it hasn't been folded 500 times it's new to the store so it's still very much clean. Most places have them washed before shipped and folded and processed out to where they are going to be sold out.

I guess it would be different too depending on the climate of the country in which you live. The last time l wore socks was years ago when l lived in New York for awhile. And l agree, there can be exceptions - like l could wear a bra at least twice before tossing it in the laundry basket.

@ShyBear88 When l lived in New York during the winter l wore my sweater more than once before washing it.

Well I do do the laundry two or three times a week, but that's because there are four of us. The only thing I change every day is underwear. I wear trousers for at least a week before washing them unless I spill something or otherwise get particularly dirty. Loose skirts can last longer, as they are not tight against any potentially smelly body parts, IYSWIM. In winter I would wear a top all week as well, but in this hot weather it depends on whether I get hot enough to be sweaty. And if I just wear something to go to an event such as a meeting that lasts an hour or two, then I put it aside to wear again and I might repeat that several times. It helps that I'm not a very sweaty person of course; for my daughter it's different and she definitely does need a fresh top every day. My partner would wear the same T-shirt for several days if he's at home but if he has to go to the office then he needs a fresh shirt every day too.

Yes it depends mainly too on if the country you live in has changing seasons and one's preferences on the whole. When l lived in New York during the winter l must have worn some items more than once , and sweaters and jackets definitely longer.

I never (well, rarely) wear an item for more than a month without laundering it. With socks it's rarely more than a few days. You look a tad "burdened" in the photo.

We do laundry often and rarely wear the same shirt twice except maybe for pants or skirts. It's mostly hot where I live so we sweat a lot and it's not really nice to wear the same old shirt and feel icky like that.
