Wild Ride Today

Oh, hail! Screen grab from my front door Ring camera.

They’ve been warning us for days that today would be a severe weather day. While it wasn’t as bad as they had forecasted (the tornados were up in central Indiana, near Indianapolis, not here), we did have some whopper hail stones, heavy wind, and a lot of rain. Thankfully, it’s mostly past us now. One great thing about my new security system is that I can actually watch severe weather from the comfort of my safe space! The photo attached is a screen grab of what my front door camera was picking up in the way of hail during the worst of the storm. And that’s nothing compared to the photos they were showing on the live weather coverage of the storm: there were some stones between hen eggs and baseballs. I haven’t checked to see if she’s posted but I heard from Lou Avul and she’s okay as well. What was cool about the first round (the worst, the one with the big hail and the tornado warning) was that, as soon as it went by, the sun came back out. Although they didn’t come out very well, I got some pictures of the rainbow! It’s calmed down where I am after the wild ride. I am watching the lightning show on one of the live cams nearby. I hope there wasn’t any damage today around here!

As I mentioned, the storms broke up and went north. We had hoped for a downpour. We need rain badly. Our very expensive flower garden is starting to droop again. Probably will have our housekeeper weed and water. Wishing you a good week.

I’m sorry you didn’t get any rain. Eric Wilhelm in Youngstown said that this pattern tends to mean dry conditions in Ohio. We set a one-day record rainfall (2.17 inches) for yesterday.

@LindaOHio — you didn’t, but I saw the information on Weather for Weather Geeks, which is out of Youngstown, Ohio.

@FourWalls Yesterday it rained buckets. It rained cats, dogs and rhinos....or did I tell you that already? We are good for a few days. Supposed to rain again on Saturday.

Glad you are ok and hope nothing is damaged. It has all missed us so far up here.

It was a weird set-up: watches north and south of us, but nothing here, then we finally got our watch but no tornado warnings east or south of Louisville (and I think a total of three tornado warnings in the area). VERY thankful!!!

@FourWalls Very glad it missed you for that. We are still under a tornado watch until around 11. But it's clear out

I remember the last bad hailstorm we had was early last year. All but two of the windshields in the parking lot in front of my building were busted, and every single vehicle, including mine, was totaled. I even wrote about it on Mylot. I ended up taking the check, and just fixing my Honda CRV. Since it had so few miles, it just made more sense. I'm glad to hear you are okay. I do worry about Mylotters when I know severe weather is headed their way.

@FourWalls I'm glad I'm not alone! I am absolutely mocked for it by family. My friends are kinder about it though.

Oh, good, you’re a worrywart, too. Every time there’s an earthquake in California that makes the national news (I don’t think anything under a 5.5 gets reported anymore ) I text or PM people I know out there.

We just experienced a fast and furious thunderstorm but things are already starting to dry out and the sky is brightening.

We had that yesterday, and it was deceptive. The morning round of thunderstorms left and everything was beautiful….then BOOM!

That does sound like a wild ride and certainly glad you didn't get any damage. We have rain and thunderstorms here today and it looks like it going to be that way for the next few days.

@FourWalls It was forecasted for days, that doesn't happen often. Usually they are spot on with the forecast.

The news websites are reporting about 20,000 without power in Louisville, which is pretty good after 60 to 70-MPH winds came through. I hope your power stays on, too, and I hope it’s not nearly as severe as they’re forecasting!

We have a warning for severe weather from Thursday to Saturday evening. I am glad you are fine and you have a new security system. I hate hail, when it's so big it causes serious damages. When we have thunderstorms this is what I fear most.

We switched to El Niño in a big hurry here. Now there’s a major heat wave in most of Texas.

Me, too! After seeing those people injured by hail stones at a concert at Red Rocks in Colorado I definitely decided that the best place for me was tucked in a corner with my bicycle helmet on.

@FourWalls I don't blame you. I've gotten thumped on the head a few times when I wasn't fast enough to dodge the hailstones... but I survived and that's the important part.

Hail the size of hens' eggs? Yeeowza! I'm glad you're okay and that it was more exciting than damaging.

Hail stones as big as hen eggs and baseballs frighten me, who aren't used to them. I'm glad it passed by so quickly. I hope there are no lives lost or serious damages to properties too.

There’s no reports of fatalities or injuries from the area in Indiana where the tornadoes hit. There was quite a bit of damage, though: someone filmed it, and you could see the shingles flying in the air after the tornado hit a house.
